Permabond UV639 is a highly elastic, highly transparent UV-curing adhesive — specifically for acrylic, polycarbonate and PETG with an exceptional elongation at break of >220%.

With an elongation at break of >220%, UV639 is the most elastic UV adhesive in the Permabond range — values that standard UV adhesives (50–150%) cannot achieve. This flexibility buffers thermal expansion and contraction between different plastics.

The excellent adhesion to acrylic (>6 N/mm² substrate failure), polycarbonate (>8 N/mm² SV) and PETG (>7 N/mm² SV) makes UV639 the first choice for display, shop window and packaging applications with highly transparent plastics.

SPECIAL FEATURE

Highly elastic with over 220% elongation at break — its exceptional flexibility buffers thermal and mechanical stresses between plastics. Highly transparent for invisible bonding, low shrinkage.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with isopropanol or acetone. For aluminum/copper, lightly sand to remove the oxide layer. Test compatibility on plastics.
2
Apply adhesive thinly
Apply Permabond UV639 thinly and evenly – directly from the bottle or using a dispensing device. Keep the adhesive protected from light. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Adding and aligning components
Quickly and precisely assemble. When bonding glass, spread the adhesive into a thin film by applying pressure. Do not move components during UV curing.
4
Cure with UV light
Point the UV lamp at the adhesive gap. Curing time depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components — typically 1–5 seconds for a 30 W/cm² fiber optic system or 5–15 seconds for a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp.
5
Full strength after UV irradiation
After complete UV curing, the components are immediately ready for handling. Final strength is achieved immediately after irradiation. For dual-cure products (UV + anaerobic), an additional 24 hours are required for complete anaerobic curing of the shaded areas.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond UV639

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond UV639 is a methacrylic acid ester (UV-curing, long-wavelength) adhesive with a viscosity of 1,300 mPa·s @ 20 rpm. This highly elastic UV adhesive offers >220% elongation at break for acrylic, polycarbonate, and PETG. The adhesive cures upon irradiation with UV light in the spectral range of 365–420 nm, providing instantaneous curing "on demand".

Permabond UV639 cures in the spectral range of 365–420 nm. Standard mercury vapor UV lamps, LED UV lamps with a suitable wavelength, or UV light guide systems are all suitable. For LED lamps, the maximum wavelength of the LED must be matched to the curing spectrum of the adhesive—we are happy to advise you on selecting the right lamp.

The UV curing of Permabond UV639 depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components. Typical curing times range from seconds to a few minutes.

Permabond UV639 reliably bonds: Polycarbonate: >8 N/mm² (substrate failure); Acrylic: >6 N/mm² (SV); PETG: >7 N/mm² (SV); PET: >5 N/mm² (SV). For thermoplastic substrates, we recommend testing compatibility before series production — release agents on injection-molded parts can impair adhesion.

Permabond UV639 is a highly elastic UV adhesive for acrylic/PETG/PC (1,300 mPa·s @ 20 rpm viscosity, >220% elongation at break). Permabond UV630 is a standard biocompatible (250 mPa·s, 110% elongation at break) hardener.

When stored at 5 to 25 °C and protected from light, Permabond UV639 is stable until the printed expiration date. IMPORTANT: UV adhesives cure upon contact with light — always store the bottle in the dark and only open it briefly under UV-blocked light. Daylight-stable variants (e.g., UV675) can be used briefly under ambient light.

From the Permabond UV range, select according to substrate, viscosity, and special properties: Permabond UV639 (Highly elastic UV adhesive for acrylic/PETG/PC); Permabond UV630 (Standard biocompatible); Permabond UV632 (Low viscosity urethane); Permabond UV6302 (Polycarbonate wicking). For shaded areas (where UV light does not fully reach the adhesive gap), a dual-cure variant such as Permabond UV7141 (UV + anaerobic) should be used.
