Frequently asked questions about Permabond UV7138
Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.
Permabond UV7138 is a UV-curing (engineering) adhesive with a specific viscosity. This special UV adhesive is designed for engineering applications – technical data available upon request. The adhesive cures upon exposure to UV light in the spectral range of [missing information] – providing instant curing on demand.
Permabond UV7138 cures in the spectral range —. Standard mercury vapor UV lamps, LED UV lamps with a suitable wavelength, or UV light guide systems are suitable. For LED lamps, the maximum wavelength of the LED must be matched to the curing spectrum of the adhesive — we are happy to advise you on selecting the right lamp.
The UV curing time of Permabond UV7138 depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components. Typical curing times range from seconds to a few minutes.
Permabond UV7138 typically bonds glass, metals, and plastics. See TDS for substrate-specific strength values.
Permabond UV7138 is a special UV adhesive (engineering application) (viscosity, elongation at break). Permabond UV7220 is a black cationic epoxy (elongation at break) – a special dual-cure adhesive with heat.
When stored at 5 to 25 °C and protected from light, Permabond UV7138 is stable until the printed expiration date. IMPORTANT: UV adhesives cure upon contact with light — always store the bottle in the dark and only open it briefly under UV-blocked light. Daylight-stable variants (e.g., UV675) can be used briefly under ambient light.
From the Permabond UV range, select according to substrate, viscosity, and special properties: Permabond UV7138 (special UV adhesive (engineering application)); Permabond UV7220 (cationic epoxy black); Permabond UV7141 (dual-cure UV+anaerobic); Permabond UV681 (conformal coating). For shaded areas (where UV light does not fully reach the adhesive gap), a dual-cure variant such as Permabond UV7141 (UV + anaerobic) should be used.
