Permabond POP Primer is a polyolefin primer for cyanoacrylate bonding of PP, PE, PTFE and silicone — reliable CA bonding is not possible on these materials without a primer.

Permabond adhesion promoter primers prepare critical substrates (polyolefins, silicone, PTFE, or metals) for bonding with Permabond adhesives. POP Primer is tailored to specific applications—the most important properties and areas of use are listed below.

PP/PE/PTFE/Silicone with CA bondable

Permabond POP Primer makes polyolefins, PTFE, and silicone CA-bondable — without this primer, cyanoacrylate will not adhere to these low-energy substrates. After treatment with POP Primer, bonds can be achieved that are stronger than the substrate itself.

What makes POP Primer stand out

Polyolefin primer
Specifically designed for PP, PE, PTFE and silicone.
CA bonding possible
On substrates that are otherwise not adhesive.
Stronger than the substrate
After treatment, the bond strength is higher than the substrate strength.
Quick application
Brush on or spray on.
Proven industry standard
Permabond standard for low-energy substrates.

What is POP Primer used for?

Polypropylene (PP) CA bonding
Bonding standard PP components with cyanoacrylate.
Polyethylene (PE) CA bonding
Making PE substrates adhesive for CA.
PTFE (Teflon) CA adhesive
PTFE that is difficult to bond.
Silicone adhesive with CA
Bond silicone components with CA.
Multi-polymer bonding
Low-energy polymers.

processing

1
clean substrate
Degrease and dry the bonding surfaces with Permabond Cleaner A or acetone/isopropanol.
2
Brush on primer
Apply a thin, even layer — no puddles or multiple coats.
3
Let dry
Adhere to at least the drying time specified in the TDS — typically 5–30 min.
4
Apply adhesive
Apply the Permabond CA / structural adhesive within the open time of the primer.
5
Joining + Curing
Join components, press with pressure, and allow to cure according to the adhesive TDS.

Frequently Asked Questions about POP Primer

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond POP Primer: Polyolefin primer for cyanoacrylate bonding of PP, PE, PTFE, and silicone—reliable CA bonding is not possible on these materials without a primer. Main applications: Polypropylene (PP) CA bonding, Polyethylene (PE) CA bonding, PTFE (Teflon) CA bonding.

Permabond primers are used on substrates that do not adhere sufficiently with standard adhesives: POP primer for polyolefins (PP, PE), PTFE and silicone (otherwise no CA adhesion is possible); 2-component primer kit as a universal primer for demanding metal, glass or composite bonding — significantly improves adhesion, acts as corrosion protection and shows with the wettability indicator whether the substrate is ready for bonding.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — Permabond adhesives typically between +5 and +25 °C, see TDS for exact values. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Store cyanoacrylates in a cool place (ideally refrigerated) for maximum shelf life.

The comparison table above lists related Permabond products with different properties—viscosity, mixing ratio, special certification. If you are unsure which product is best, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate pairing, load, curing conditions).
