Permabond UV612 is a crystal-clear, low-viscosity and highly flexible UV-curing adhesive — designed for glass bonding with stress reserve and high optical clarity.

With a Shore D hardness of 30–40, UV612 is significantly softer than standard glass-to-metal UV adhesives. This flexibility buffers thermal stresses between glass and metal—important for components subjected to large temperature fluctuations or dynamic loads.

The crystal-clear optics and stability under ambient light (fluorescent lamps) make UV612 the choice for high-quality glass cut bevels and glass art that require further processing after application.

APPLICATION PROFILE

Crystal-Clear, highly flexible UV adhesive — its low hardness (30–40 Shore D) buffers thermal and mechanical stresses between glass components. Daylight-stable — processing possible after application.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with isopropanol or acetone. For aluminum/copper, lightly sand to remove the oxide layer. Test compatibility on plastics.
2
Apply adhesive thinly
Apply Permabond UV612 thinly and evenly – directly from the bottle or using a dispensing device. Keep the adhesive protected from light. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Adding and aligning components
Quickly and precisely assemble. When bonding glass, spread the adhesive into a thin film by applying pressure. Do not move components during UV curing.
4
Cure with UV light
Point the UV lamp at the adhesive gap. Curing time depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components — typically 1–5 seconds for a 30 W/cm² fiber optic system or 5–15 seconds for a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp.
5
Full strength after UV irradiation
After complete UV curing, the components are immediately ready for handling. Final strength is achieved immediately after irradiation. For dual-cure products (UV + anaerobic), an additional 24 hours are required for complete anaerobic curing of the shaded areas.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond UV612

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond UV612 is a methacrylate ester (UV-curing) adhesive with a viscosity of 450–650 mPa·s @ 20 rpm. This low-viscosity, crystal-clear UV adhesive is flexible, non-yellowing, and suitable for ground glass. The adhesive cures upon exposure to UV light in the 365–400 nm spectral range, providing instant curing on demand.

Permabond UV612 cures in the spectral range of 365–400 nm. Standard mercury vapor UV lamps, LED UV lamps with a suitable wavelength, or UV light guide systems are all suitable. For LED lamps, the maximum wavelength of the LED must be matched to the curing spectrum of the adhesive—we are happy to advise you on selecting the right lamp.

Permabond UV612 typically cures in: 10–15 s with a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp; 2–3 s with a 100 mW/cm² LED lamp; 1–2 s with a 30 W/cm² UV light guide system. The exact curing time depends on the layer thickness and the light transmittance of the components.

Permabond UV612 bonds reliably to glass/steel: 8–12 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, we recommend testing compatibility before series production — release agents on injection-molded parts can impair adhesion.

Permabond UV612 is a low-viscosity, crystal-clear UV adhesive (450–650 mPa·s @ 20 rpm viscosity, >50% elongation at break). Permabond UV675 is a crystal-clear hardener (500–800 mPa·s, >50% elongation at break) — hardener (60–70 Shore D).

When stored at 5 to 25 °C and protected from light, Permabond UV612 is stable until the printed expiration date. IMPORTANT: UV adhesives cure upon contact with light — always store the bottle in the dark and only open it briefly under UV-blocked light. Daylight-stable variants (e.g., UV675) can be used briefly under ambient light.

From the Permabond UV range, select according to substrate, viscosity, and special properties: Permabond UV612 (Crystal-Clear UV adhesive, low viscosity); Permabond UV675 (Crystal-Clear, harder); Permabond UV620 (Optically clear, standard); Permabond UV670 (Flexible, impact-resistant). For shadowed areas (where UV light does not fully reach the adhesive gap), a dual-cure variant such as Permabond UV7141 (UV + anaerobic) should be used.
