Permabond A129 is a medium-strength anaerobic thread sealant in gel form — designed for pressure-tight sealing of coarse pipe threads, with thixotropic consistency for vertical applications and tool-removable locking.

With its thixotropic, non-drip paste consistency, A129 stays precisely where it is applied—even on upright threads. The 0.5 mm gap filling covers coarse pipe and fitting threads where low-viscosity products would fail.

The medium-strength torque (breakaway 12 N·m, further 7 N·m) allows for subsequent disassembly of the connection using standard tools—important for plumbing and pneumatic installations that need to be opened periodically. Corrosion protection and good chemical resistance are also provided.

APPLICATION PROFILE

Thixotropic gel for coarse pipe threads — Permabond A129 seals pipe connections pressure-tight, remains stationary even in vertical threads due to its paste consistency and can later be disassembled with standard tools.

What distinguishes Permabond A129

Thixotropic gel
Does not drip from vertical threads — precisely dosable, stationary.
0.5 mm gap filling
For coarse pipe threads without pre-machining.
Tool-removable
Medium strength — Disassembly possible with standard tools.
Corrosion protection
Seals the thread gaps against moisture.
Good chemical resistance
Tolerant towards most industry media.
UV fluorescence
Curing can be checked using UV light.

What is Permabond A129 used for?

Pipe and fitting screw connections
Hydraulic, pneumatic and lubricating oil lines with coarse threads.
Sanitary installation
Threads that should remain pressure-tight but removable.
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Screw connections that are opened periodically for maintenance purposes.
Industrial plants with pipelines
Compressed air, cooling water, auxiliary media.
Repair and maintenance
The gel consistency allows for selective application without running.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished surfaces.
2
Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond A129 directly from the bottle — for through holes, apply a stripe along the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops to the bottom. Do not touch the nozzle to metal surfaces (this will cause premature hardening in the bottle).
3
assembling components
Insert the screws and tighten them to the required torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.
4
Allow to harden
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and in contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.
5
Accelerate curing (optional)
Permabond A905 activator can be used on inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures — applied to one adhesive surface, allowed to evaporate, then adhesive applied to the other side.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
Not for use in pure oxygen or vapor contact. Some thermoplastics may be affected — compatibility testing recommended. Use Permabond A905 activator on inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc).
storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Anaerobic adhesives lose their reactivity upon contact with metal — do not touch the tip of the bottle to metal surfaces, do not pour the adhesive back into the bottle.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond A129

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond A129 is a thixotropic, non-drip, single-component acrylic thread sealant with a gap-filling capacity of up to 0.5 mm. This medium-strength thread sealant gel is suitable for coarse pipe threads and plumbing installations. Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal, making them ideal for tight-tolerance metallic joints.

Anaerobic adhesives like Permabond A129 remain liquid in the bottle (due to contact with air and oxygen) and only begin to harden after bonding under anaerobic conditions and metal-to-metal contact. Curing starts at the metal surface and progresses into the bond gap. The product cures quickly on steel and copper; on stainless steel and zinc, the Permabond A905 activator may be beneficial.

Yes — Permabond A129 is a thread sealant with moderate torque (12 N·m) and can be removed with standard tools. Designed for maintenance of pipe connections.

Permabond A129 does not have specific industry approvals such as WRAS or KTW (drinking water). For general industrial applications, the product is approved according to Permabond's internal specifications; however, product-specific testing prior to series production is recommended.

Permabond A129 typically achieves handling strength after 15 minutes and functional strength after 1 hour at 23 °C on M10 steel. Final strength is reached after 24 hours. On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) or at low temperatures, the curing time is extended—Permabond A905 activator accelerates the process.

Permabond A129 is a thread sealant gel (thixotropic, non-drip viscosity, 0.5 mm gap filling, 12 N·m breakaway torque). Permabond A1044 is a fast-curing pipe sealant (0.5 mm gap filling, 20 N·m breakaway torque) – fast-curing, low-pressure. Both belong to the anaerobic Permabond A series.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond A129 (gel thread sealant); Permabond A1044 (fast-curing pipe sealant); Permabond A1058 (high-viscosity pipe sealant); Permabond A130 (WRAS threadlocker). For inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum), Permabond A905 activator be used to accelerate curing.
