Permabond A905 is a surface activator for use in conjunction with anaerobic Permabond adhesives (A011, A113, A130 etc.) — accelerates curing on inactive surfaces and improves gap curing in the case of coarse tolerances.
Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal—this works quickly on copper and steel, but curing can be significantly slower on inactive surfaces such as stainless steel, zinc, or aluminum. A905 is applied to one of the two bonding surfaces, allowed to dry thoroughly, and then forms a thin activating film.
The high evaporation rate (7.7 × butyl acetate) ensures rapid evaporation—no waiting time required. A905 also improves gap curing in large tolerances where anaerobic curing would otherwise proceed slowly. Available as a liquid and as a spray (A 905 Spray).
Surface activator for the Permabond A series — accelerates the curing of anaerobic adhesives on inactive surfaces such as stainless steel, zinc, or aluminum. Improves gap curing in cases of coarse tolerances.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond A905
Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.
Permabond A905 is a surface activator for use with anaerobic Permabond adhesives — it accelerates curing on inactive surfaces such as stainless steel, zinc, or aluminum and improves gap curing in cases of coarse tolerances. Surface activator for anaerobic adhesives — accelerates curing on inactive surfaces.
Apply A905 thinly and evenly to ONE of the two bonding surfaces. Allow to dry completely (a few seconds to minutes). Then apply the anaerobic adhesive to the UNTREATED bonding surface. Do not mix the activator and adhesive directly—this will cause premature curing.
A905 is compatible with the entire anaerobic Permabond A range — threadlockers (A011, A113, A126, A130, A025, A131, A134, A118), shaft-hub adhesives (A1042, A1046, A1062), thread sealants (A129, A1044, A1058) and surface sealants (A136). A905 has no activating effect on other adhesive types (cyanoacrylates, epoxides, UV acrylates).
A905 is particularly effective on inactive surfaces—stainless steel, zinc (galvanized steel), aluminum, and some coatings. On steel, copper, and their alloys, anaerobic curing is rapid even without an activator. Its use is also beneficial at low ambient temperatures or with large adhesive gaps.
Permabond offers A905 as a liquid (for high-volume processing, dipping, and rag application) and as an A905 spray (aerosol, for selective or hard-to-reach areas). The chemistry is identical—the choice depends on the application method.
When stored correctly at 5 to 25 °C, A905 is stable until the printed expiration date. Since the product contains solvents, keep the bottle tightly closed; otherwise, evaporation will occur and the product's effectiveness will decrease.
A905 contains solvents (flash point −4 °C) — risk of fire and deflagration. Use only in well-ventilated areas, away from open flames, sparks, and hot surfaces. Avoid eye and skin contact; refer to the SDS for complete safety data.
