Permabond A130 is a medium-strength anaerobic threadlocker with dual drinking water approval (KTW-BWGL + WRAS) — the right choice for sanitary and water treatment technology with the highest hygiene requirements.

With its thixotropic consistency (1,800 mPa·s @ 20 rpm, 8,000 mPa·s @ 2 rpm), A130 does not drip from vertical threads—the adhesive stays where it is applied. Threads up to M20 (¾") are reliably secured with gap filling up to 0.12 mm.

The breakaway torque of 12 N·m is in the medium-strength range — resistant to vibration, removable with standard tools. Dual drinking water approval (German KTW-BWGL and British WRAS) qualifies A130 for direct contact with drinking water according to both European standards — a rare feature for threadlockers.

PERMIT

KTW-BWGL + WRAS drinking water approval — dual certification for direct contact with drinking water according to German and British standards. Vibration-resistant, removable with standard tools, with thixotropic consistency for vertical applications.

What distinguishes Permabond A130

Dual drinking water approval
KTW-BWGL (DE) + WRAS (UK) — the industry standard for drinking water hygiene.
Thixotropic consistency
Does not drip from vertical threads — apply precisely, without running.
Medium-strength bonding
12 N·m breakaway torque — resistant to vibration, removable with normal tools.
Vibration resistant
Secures bolted connections against dynamic loads.
Corrosion protection
Lubricates during tightening — uniform preload, low variation.
UV fluorescence
Curing can be checked using UV light.

What is Permabond A130 used for?

Drinking water installation
Pumps, fittings, distributors — KTW-BWGL and WRAS qualified.
Sanitary engineering
Screw connections in washing, bathing and dishwashing areas.
Water treatment plants
Hygienic screw connections in contact with drinking water.
Facilities with hygiene requirements
Food and pharmaceutical sectors, where KTW compliance is required.
General industrial screw locking
When hygiene approvals are relevant in addition to medium-strength security measures.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished surfaces.
2
Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond A130 directly from the bottle — for through holes, apply a stripe along the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops to the bottom. Do not touch the nozzle to metal surfaces (this will cause premature hardening in the bottle).
3
assembling components
Insert the screws and tighten them to the required torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.
4
Allow to harden
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and in contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.
5
Accelerate curing (optional)
Permabond A905 activator can be used on inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures — applied to one adhesive surface, allowed to evaporate, then adhesive applied to the other side.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
Not for use in applications involving contact with oxygen or vapor. Some thermoplastics may be affected — compatibility testing is recommended. Curing is slower on inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) — Permabond A905 activator can be used.
storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Anaerobic adhesives lose their reactivity upon contact with metal — do not touch the tip of the bottle to metal surfaces, do not pour the adhesive back into the bottle.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond A130

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond A130 is an anaerobic acrylic adhesive with a viscosity of 1,800 mPa·s @ 20 rpm / 8,000 mPa·s @ 2 rpm (thixotropic) and gap filling up to 0.12 mm. It is a medium-strength threadlocker with dual drinking water approval (KTW + WRAS). Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal — ideal for tight-tolerance metallic joints.

Anaerobic adhesives like Permabond A130 remain liquid in the bottle (due to contact with air and oxygen) and only begin to harden after bonding under anaerobic conditions and metal-to-metal contact. Curing starts at the metal surface and progresses into the bond gap. The product cures quickly on steel and copper; on stainless steel and zinc, the Permabond A905 activator may be beneficial.

Yes, with tools — Permabond A130 is medium-strength (12 N·m breakaway torque) and can be loosened with standard tools. If necessary, the bond can be gently heated to facilitate disassembly.

Permabond A130 is approved according to KTW-BWGL Drinking Water Approval and WRAS Drinking Water Approval . These certifications qualify the product for the respective specified applications—such as direct contact with drinking water in the case of WRAS and KTW approvals.

Permabond A130 typically reaches handling strength after 15 minutes and functional strength after 1 hour at 23 °C on M10 steel. Final strength is reached after 24 hours. On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) or at low temperatures, the curing time is extended—Permabond A905 activator accelerates the process.

Permabond A130 is a medium-strength threadlocker suitable for drinking water (1,800 mPa·s @ 20 rpm / 8,000 mPa·s @ 2 rpm (thixotropic) viscosity, 0.12 mm gap filling, 12 N·m breakaway torque). Permabond A113 is a medium-strength threadlocker (500 mPa·s, 0.12 mm gap filling, 12 N·m breakaway torque) — low viscosity, WRAS. Both belong to the anaerobic Permabond A series.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond A130 (medium-strength threadlocker, drinking water); Permabond A113 (medium-strength); Permabond A011 (low-strength); Permabond A025 (high-strength, high-temperature). For inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum), Permabond A905 activator be used to accelerate curing.
