What is the difference between Bluesil and Silbione?
Bluesil is Elkem's industrial brand for RTV-1 and RTV-2 silicones, silicone oils, pastes, primers, and specialty products used in mechanical engineering, electronics, and tool and mold making. Silbione is Elkem's product line for high-purity silicones in the healthcare and personal care markets. Specifications and certifications available for each type are available upon request.
Which Elkem products are available from the Swiss warehouse?
Common Bluesil RTV silicones (such as RTV 141, RTV 3428, RTV 3450), Bluesil Paste 4, as well as CAF 33 and CAF 4 are generally available for immediate delivery from our warehouse in Gümligen near Bern. We also stock selected Silbione grades in Gümligen; we procure special sizes, other Silbione types, and ESA potting compounds upon request. We will confirm availability and delivery time during order processing.
Are Silbione silicones suitable for medical applications?
Silbione is Elkem's product line of high-purity silicones for healthcare applications. We will determine on a project-specific basis, using the manufacturer's documentation, whether a specific Silbione type is suitable for your application and what specifications and certifications are available. What are CAF sealants and what are they suitable for?
CAF (Caoutchouc Auto-vulcanisable à Froid) is Elkem's heritage brand of one-component RTV silicone sealants. CAF 33 (acetate-curing) and CAF 4 (neutral-curing) cover sealing, bonding, and protective applications in automotive engineering, equipment manufacturing, electrical engineering, and structural engineering. Temperature resistance ranges from approximately -50 to +180 degrees Celsius, depending on the type; the specifications in the technical data sheet are definitive.
Which Bluesil RTV-2 silicones are suitable for mold making?
For conventional mold making, addition-curing Bluesil RTV-2 types such as RTV 3428 (approx. Shore A 25, all-round type) or RTV 3450 (approx. Shore A 50, abrasion-resistant) are suitable; see the technical data sheet for specifications. For food contact applications, types such as RTV 3325 may be suitable, depending on the regulatory framework; see the manufacturer's documentation for details. The selection depends on the level of detail, Shore hardness, pot life, and expected service life of the mold; the technical data sheet is the definitive source.
