PERMABOND ET515
PERMABOND ET515
Permabond Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd SKU 49-515.KT.G050

Permabond ET515 is a highly flexible 2K epoxy specifically for bonding different materials (composite, metal, plastic) — with exceptional flexibility, high peel resistance and aerospace suitability for aircraft seat trays.

With an elongation at break of 20–40% and a temperature difference (Tg) of +20 °C, ET515 is significantly more flexible than standard epoxies—this flexibility buffers thermal expansion and contraction between dissimilar materials (such as carbon fiber to aluminum). Its peel strength of 100–150 N/25 mm is a top value for industrial structures.

The official Permabond recommendation for bonding aircraft seat trays underscores its suitability for aerospace applications. ET515 bonds steel (8–12 N/mm²), aluminum (9–12 N/mm²), carbon fiber (8–12 N/mm²), polyester GRP, epoxy FRP, and polycarbonate (substrate failure). The 2 mm gap filling accommodates large tolerances.

AEROSPACE STAR

Aerospace epoxy for aircraft seat trays — Permabond ET515 is officially recommended by Permabond for bonding aircraft seat tray structures. Its combination of high flexibility (20–40% elongation at break) and peel strength (100–150 N/25 mm) makes it the premium choice for composite structural bonding with differing coefficients of thermal expansion.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For dual cartridges: Attach the mixing nozzle and press evenly (1:1 volume mixing ratio). For larger containers: Weigh out the resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to a bonding surface within the pot life (10–20 minutes @ 23 °C). Join the components with sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive is distributed over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components in place during curing
Use a clamping device or vise to prevent the components from moving during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength to be determined according to the TDS (Technical Data Sheet).
5
Full curing at room temperature
Final strength is typically reached after 72 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If required, optional post-curing at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Important instructions

Important instructions
Before bonding, degrease surfaces with Permabond Cleaner A. Lightly sand aluminum for maximum adhesion. Test compatibility with thermoplastic substrates. Full curing takes 72 hours at 23 °C — higher temperatures accelerate curing.
storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Keep 2K epoxy components in closed packaging — protect the hardener especially from moisture.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond ET515

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Highly flexible aerospace epoxy 1:1 — for aircraft seat trays, composite structural bonding, and maximum peel resistance. This 2-component epoxy is mixed in a 1:1 volume ratio and offers a pot life of 10–20 minutes @ 23 °C.

Mix both components in a 1:1 ratio by volume — use the mixing nozzle for dual cartridges, weigh precisely for larger containers. Apply within the pot life (10–20 minutes @ 23 °C) and join components. Full curing typically occurs after 72 hours at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET515 is typically 10–20 minutes at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures lengthen the pot life. Mixing quantities above approximately 100 g may gel more quickly due to an exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET515 reliably bonds: Steel: 8–12 N/mm²; Aluminum: 9–12 N/mm²; Stainless steel: 6–9 N/mm²; Carbon fiber: 8–12 N/mm²; Polyester-GRP: 3–5 N/mm²; Epoxy-GRP: 4–6 N/mm²; Polycarbonate: >5 N/mm² (substrate failure). For thermoplastic substrates, test compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET515 is approved according to: Aerospace Aircraft Seat Tray Bonding (Permabond-confirmed). Compliance letters and detailed certificates are available from Permabond/SILITECH.

Permabond ET515 is a highly flexible 2-component epoxy 1:1 — for aerospace, composite, and multi-material applications (1:1 volume mix, 10–20 minutes pot life @ 23 °C). Permabond ET514 is a high-strength 1:1 epoxy (1:1, 30–50 min pot life) — higher strength, less flexible.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy range, select according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirements: Permabond ET515 (Highly flexible 2K epoxy 1:1 — Aerospace, Composite, Multi-material); Permabond ET514 (High strength 1:1); Permabond ET5422 (Premium 100:44); Permabond ET5441 (Thermally conductive 2:1). For aerospace applications, see ET515 (Aircraft Seat Trays); for food applications, see ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal conductivity/fire protection, see ET5441 (UL94-V0).
