Processing

1
Stir the RTV base
Homogenize well before use — fillers may sediment.
2
Mix with catalyst
100 parts RTV + 5 parts Bluesil CATA (24H Standard / 6H Quick / SPE for PE resistance). Mix thoroughly — no streaks visible.
3
Degas
30–50 mbar vacuum — mixture expands 3–4 times. Interrupt vacuum 2–3 times.
4
Casting
Pour slowly from the lowest point of the mold.
5
Crosslinking
At 23 °C / 50 % relative humidity for 24 h for standard workflow. Higher temperature and humidity accelerate crosslinking.
6
Demold
Demold after the demolding time (standard 24 h, quick 6 h). Linear shrinkage typically 0.4–0.7 % — consider for dimensional accuracy requirements.

Important Notes

Mixing & Dosing
Stir A and B thoroughly before each processing. Accurate dosing in the specified ratio (see table above) — preferably weight-based. Incorrect dosing leads to incomplete crosslinking.
Degassing
Degas the mixture under vacuum at 30–50 mbar. Material expands 3–4 times, falls back after 5–10 min. Interrupt vacuum several times for better degassing.
Avoid inhibitors
Polyaddition silicones are inhibited by: sulfur-vulcanized rubber, tin-catalyzed RTV, amine epoxides, PVC with tin salts. When in doubt, perform a preliminary test.

Frequently asked questions about Calsil PC 30

Practical processing and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Calsil RTV PC 30: Pourable 2K-RTV silicone (Sn polycondensation) with Shore A 30 — standard hardness choice for general mold tools in model making and reproduction. Main applications are model making molds, industrial reproduction, decorative replicas.

Polycondensation curing is a 2-component silicone chemistry with a tin catalyst. When mixed, the components crosslink, releasing alcohol as a byproduct — this can lead to low linear shrinkage (typically <0.7 %). Advantage: Polycondensation silicones are less sensitive to inhibitors than polyaddition systems — they also crosslink in contact with sulfur-vulcanized rubber and are tolerant of many substrates. Established, economical industrial standard for lost wax casting, decorative reproduction, and construction.

Thoroughly stir components A and B before each processing step. Dose precisely according to the mixing ratio specified in the TDS (see comparison table above) — preferably by weight. Mix with an electric or pneumatic stirrer at low speed (minimize air entrainment). Degas the mixture under vacuum (30–50 mbar) — the material expands to 3–4 times its volume, bubbles escape, and the material settles back after 5–10 minutes. Then pour slowly into the mold from the lowest point to avoid air entrapment. For polyaddition systems, avoid contact with inhibitors (sulfur rubber, tin RTV, amine epoxides, PVC with tin salts).

Store in unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C, exact values see TDS. Store components A and B separately; after opening, seal airtight. Polyaddition systems are insensitive to moisture, but should be stored cool to preserve pot life. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

In the comparison table above, you will find related RTV products with different hardnesses, pot lives, or application profiles. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we will be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with your application (substrate, desired hardness, processing time, requirements for mechanical properties and resistance).
