FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Which adhesive is suitable for metal-to-metal bonding?
For structural metal-to-metal bonding, two-component epoxy adhesives (e.g., Permabond ET series) or MMA-based structural adhesives are suitable; for rapid fixings and repairs, cyanoacrylates (e.g., Permabond 101/731) are appropriate; and for threaded, flanged, and shaft-hub connections, anaerobic adhesives are recommended. The substrate, gap dimensions, load, and surface preparation are crucial factors. We recommend selecting the appropriate adhesive based on the technical data sheets and testing on the original substrate.
What is the difference between Permabond and Loctite?
Permabond and Loctite offer comparable product technologies: cyanoacrylates, anaerobic adhesives, epoxies, and UV systems. We carry both brands; a comparison list of potential equivalents is available upon request, with the technical data sheets being the definitive source. Depending on the application and consumption, switching products may be economically advantageous. We will ensure the success of any changeover by conducting a suitability test in your actual process.
Can adhesives replace welding and screws?
Yes, in many applications. Adhesive bonds distribute loads over a surface area, reduce stress peaks, and join dissimilar materials without thermally stressing the component. Especially in lightweight construction, with composite materials, and thin sheets, structural adhesives are often the technically superior choice. Prerequisites include a design optimized for bonding, clean surface preparation, and suitability testing on the actual component.
Do you offer free samples?
For many Permabond products, we typically provide qualified industrial customers with free samples for suitability testing. Describe the application, substrates, and load requirements: We will suggest suitable products and provide the technical data sheet along with them.
