Permabond UV620 is an optically clear, non-yellowing UV-curing adhesive for glass-metal bonding — specially developed for glass furniture and load-bearing connections with aesthetic requirements.

With a viscosity of 2,200–2,900 mPa·s, UV620 is medium-viscosity and covers standard glass gaps. Its refractive index of >1.490 is practically equivalent to glass—the adhesive joint becomes optically invisible.

The high resistance to yellowing makes UV620 suitable for outdoor and high-performance applications where the adhesive seam must remain clear for years. With a tensile strength of 16 N/mm² (ISO37) and elongation at break of 80%, load-bearing glass furniture bonding is easily achievable.

APPLICATION PROFILE

Optically clear and non-yellowing UV-resistant glass-to-metal adhesive — specially designed for glass furniture requiring high-strength bonds. Medium viscosity for standard geometries, refractive index >1.490 for invisible bond lines on glass.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Prepare bonding surfaces clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with isopropanol or acetone. For aluminum/copper, lightly sand to remove the oxide layer. For plastics, check compatibility.
2
Apply adhesive thinly
Apply Permabond UV620 thinly and evenly – directly from the bottle or using a dispensing device. Keep the adhesive protected from light. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Join and align components
Assemble quickly and precisely. For glass bonding, spread the adhesive into a thin film by applying pressure. Do not move components during UV curing.
4
Cure with UV light
Aim the UV lamp at the bond line. Curing time depends on lamp power, wavelength, and light transmission of the components — typically 1–5 seconds with a 30 W/cm² light guide system, or 5–15 seconds with a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp.
5
Full strength after UV exposure
After complete UV curing, the components are immediately handleable. Final strength is achieved immediately after irradiation. For dual-cure products (UV + anaerobic), allow an additional 24 hours for complete anaerobic curing of shadow areas.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond UV620

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond UV620 is a methacrylic acid ester (UV-curing) adhesive with a viscosity of 2,200–2,900 mPa·s @ 20 rpm. This optically clear, UV-curing glass-to-metal adhesive is resistant to yellowing and suitable for aesthetically demanding glass furniture. The adhesive cures upon exposure to UV light in the 365–400 nm spectral range, providing instant curing on demand.

Permabond UV620 cures in the spectral range of 365–400 nm. Standard mercury vapor UV lamps, LED UV lamps with a suitable wavelength, or UV light guide systems are all suitable. For LED lamps, the maximum wavelength of the LED must be matched to the curing spectrum of the adhesive—we are happy to advise you on selecting the right lamp.

Permabond UV620 typically cures in: 5 s with a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp; 2 s with a 100 mW/cm² LED lamp; 1 s with a 30 W/cm² UV light guide system. The exact curing time depends on the layer thickness and the light transmittance of the components.

Permabond UV620 bonds reliably to glass/steel: 9–10 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, we recommend testing compatibility before series production — release agents on injection-molded parts can impair adhesion.

Permabond UV620 is an optically clear UV adhesive for glass-to-metal bonding (2,200–2,900 mPa·s @ 20 rpm viscosity, >80% elongation at break). Permabond UV610 is a high-strength adhesive for glass furniture (600–1,300 mPa·s, 95% elongation at break) — higher strength, less clear.

When stored at 5 to 25 °C and protected from light, Permabond UV620 is stable until the printed expiration date. IMPORTANT: UV adhesives cure upon contact with light — always store the bottle in the dark and only open it briefly under UV-blocked light. Daylight-stable variants (e.g., UV675) can be used briefly under ambient light.

From the Permabond UV range, select according to substrate, viscosity, and special properties: Permabond UV620 (optically clear UV adhesive for glass-to-metal); Permabond UV610 (high-strength glass furniture); Permabond UV605 (wicking); Permabond UV6160 (clear thick layers). For shadowed areas (where UV light does not fully reach the adhesive gap), a dual-cure variant such as Permabond UV7141 (UV + anaerobic) should be used.
