Basics
Industrial lubricants reduce friction and wear, protect against corrosion, and extend maintenance intervals. Oils and greases based on mineral and synthetic oils cover most bearing, guide, and assembly applications. Silicone oils and silicone greases are temperature-stable, oxidation-resistant, and generally non-aggressive toward plastics and elastomers. PFPE (perfluorinated polyethers) are chemically almost inert and are used under extreme conditions such as high temperatures, aggressive media, oxygen atmospheres, or vacuum; the suitability in individual cases is documented in the technical data sheet. Release agents based on wax, PVA, silicone, or PTFE prevent adhesion during molding and plastics processing; in metal casting, die coatings perform this function. Selection criteria include temperature range, load and speed, media and material compatibility, residue behavior and service life, as well as NSF-H1 registration of the product for applications in food proximity.

When to use silicone, when to use PFPE lubricant?
Silicone lubricants are suitable for material-friendly, temperature-stable applications with plastics and elastomers, such as on O-rings, seals, and fittings; they must not be used on silicone elastomers due to the risk of swelling. PFPE lubricants are the first choice for chemically aggressive media, very high temperatures, oxygen atmospheres, or vacuum, where mineral and silicone oils reach their limits. The decisive factors are temperature range, media contact, and material pairing; the technical data sheet specifies the application limits.
What is an H1 lubricant?
An H1 lubricant is registered with NSF for use in food processing facilities where technically unavoidable, occasional contact with the food cannot be ruled out. Registration is product-specific; the NSF registration number and manufacturer documentation are decisive. For areas without possible food contact, the H2 category exists.
