BLUESIL RTV 3040 A U1 is the base component of a clear, addition-curing RTV-2 silicone rubber of high strength for mold making, which cures to different hardnesses depending on the catalyst and reproduces molds with fine details and tight tolerances.

BLUESIL RTV 3040 can be cured with various catalysts overnight at room temperature or within a few hours at elevated temperature. The low viscosity makes the product easy to pour and deaerate; it is designed for improved resistance to polyurethane resins.

Mold making with high detail fidelity

Clear, addition-curing RTV-2 silicone rubber of high strength for production and prototype molds, with hardness selectable depending on the catalyst and improved resistance to polyurethane resins.

What sets RTV 3040 apart

Clear and firm
Clear silicone rubber with high strength (addition cure, high strength).
Low viscosity
Base component approx. 50,000 mPa·s, making it easy to pour and quick to degas.
Selectable hardness
Depending on the catalyst (CATA 3038, CATA 3040, CATA 3045), Shore A approx. 36, 38, or 45.
Detail fidelity
Reproduces fine details and maintains tight tolerances; designed for prototype construction.
PU-resistant
Formulated for improved resistance to polyurethane resins.
Low shrinkage
Linear shrinkage below 0.1% (after 24 h and after 7 days).

What is RTV 3040 used for?

Production and prototype molds
Conventional production and prototype molds
Rubber parts
Manufacture of rubber finished parts.
SLA molds
Molding of stereolithography models (SLA).

Processing

1
Preparation
Stir base (Part A) well before use and shake catalyst (Part B) thoroughly.
2
Mixing
Weigh out base and catalyst in a ratio of 10:1 (by weight) and stir until the color is uniform, filling the container only to about 1/3 full.
3
Degassing
Degas in a vacuum (up to 29 inHg) and, after the mass has settled, hold under full vacuum for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
4
Pouring and Curing
Pour slowly in a thin stream; cure for 16 to 24 h at 24 °C before demolding, full crosslinking after 3 to 7 days.

Important Notes

  • The system contains a platinum catalyst and can be inhibited by amine-crosslinked epoxides, sulfur-cured rubbers (natural, polysulfide, latex rubber and adhesives), sulfur-containing modeling compounds, PVC-coated surfaces, and tin-cured silicone RTV; if in doubt, test compatibility beforehand.
  • Heat curing (40 to 65 °C, 3 to 4 h) accelerates crosslinking but may increase shrinkage; curing temperatures below 20 °C are not recommended.
  • The currently valid Elkem data sheet (TDS and SDS) is authoritative, which we will be happy to send you.
