BLUESIL RTV 3221 without catalyst
BLUESIL RTV 3221 without catalyst
Bluesil · Elkem Silicones ·

Mold-making silicone for highly flexible molds in art, decoration, and model making. Cures at room temperature after the addition of a catalyst. Catalyst sold separately.

BLUESIL RTV 3221 is a silicone elastomer that cures to a flexible, elastic material at room temperature after the addition of a catalyst. It is designed for highly flexible molds with good demoldability. Two catalysts are available: BLUESIL CATA 24H (standard, 24-hour demolding time) and BLUESIL CATA 6H (fast, 6-hour demolding time). This item is supplied without a catalyst; the appropriate catalyst must be purchased separately.

Order catalyst separately

This position is the base without catalyst. For processing, BLUESIL CATA 24H (standard) or BLUESIL CATA 6H (fast) is required, 5 parts of each to 100 parts of base.

What makes the RTV 3221 stand out

High flexibility
Excellent flexibility and low modulus facilitate demolding, according to TDS.
Good flow properties
Good fluidity for clean impressions.
Two kinetics
CATA 24H for the standard process with 24 h demolding, CATA 6H for fast cycles with 6 h demolding.
Low-odor catalysts
According to the Elkem data sheet, the catalysts are odorless.
Elastic
Elongation at break: 230% with CATA 24H or 240% with CATA 6H.

What is the RTV 3221 used for?

Art and statues
Moldings for individual pieces or small series: theatre, film and TV special effects, statue art.
Wax molds
Wax molds for art casting and fashion jewelry.
Figures
Repeated molding, such as the production of figurines.
Crafts and DIY
Moldings in the craft and do-it-yourself sector.
Construction and decoration
Pre-production of decorative elements in the construction sector.

Processing

1
Mixing
Stir the base and catalyst before use. Add 5 parts catalyst to 100 parts RTV 3221 and mix with a slow-running stirrer to limit air entrainment.
2
Degas
Degas the mixture under vacuum at 30 to 50 mbar. Repeat the process several times, filling the container only one-third full.
3
Curing
Optimal conditions are 23°C and 50% relative humidity. Do not process below 20°C. Demolding is possible after 6 hours with CATA 6H or 24 hours with CATA 24H.
4
Final cure
For best performance, wait 24 hours before use; final properties after 3 days.

Important Notes

  • Processing and curing properties are dependent on temperature and humidity. Higher temperatures or humidity shorten the pot life, lower temperatures lengthen it. Do not process below 20 °C.
  • Store in the unopened original container at -5 °C to +30 °C for up to 12 months from the date of manufacture. Reseal opened containers.
  • The currently valid Elkem data sheet (TDS and SDS) is authoritative, which we will be happy to send you.

Frequently asked questions about RTV 3221

Practical application and design questions, answered by SILITECH.

No. This is the base without catalyst. BLUESIL CATA 24H or CATA 6H must be obtained separately; dosage is 5 parts to 100 parts base.

CATA 24H is the standard catalyst with a 24-hour demolding time, while CATA 6H cures faster with a 6-hour demolding time. According to TDS, both are odorless.

For highly flexible shapes in art, decoration, film and TV effects, wax and figure casting, as well as crafts and construction.

Approximately 18 Shore A with CATA 24H or 17 Shore A with CATA 6H after 24 hours at 23 °C.
