known as Deltaforge 31

BONDERITE L-FG 31 ACHESON is one of the world's most widely used die lubricants, a water-based dispersion of high-purity graphite. The concentrate is exceptionally stable, without separation or settling, thus delivering consistent forging performance. Extremely fine graphite ensures excellent film formation, a wide application window covers a variety of part sizes, and die life is increased. Depending on the application, it is diluted with 3 to 20 parts water.

BONDERITE L-FG 31
Bonderite ·

Bonderite L-FG 31 is one of the world's most widely used forging release agents — a water-based graphite lubricant for semi-hot, hot forming and precision forging with excellent dispersion stability.

Bonderite L-FG lubricants from Henkel/Acheson are specially formulated for forging and extrusion applications — water- or oil-based graphite and MoS₂ dispersions with excellent lubrication and release properties at high tool temperatures. L-FG 31 is tailored to specific industrial applications — the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

World's most widely used forging release agent

Bonderite L-FG 31 (formerly Deltaforge 31) is one of the world's most widely used forging release agents—a water-based graphite lubricant with excellent dispersion stability (no settling). Microfine graphite particles and a special stabilizer/binder system provide outstanding lubrication and release properties, higher dilution rates, and extended tool life.

Processing

1
Prepare forging tool
Keep tools and dies clean, free of old lubricant residues.
2
Dilute concentrate
Dilute with water in the specified ratio (see TDS) — typical dilutions: 1:10 to 1:50.
3
Application (spray or swab)
Apply to the hot tool using a spray system (automated) or brush/swab (manual).
4
Check tool temperature
The lubricant forms the optimal lubricating film at tool contact temperature.
5
Forging process
Die forging, pressing, hot stamping — lubricant reduces friction and protects the tool.
6
Tool maintenance
Check tools after shift/day, clean with Bonderite-Cleaner if necessary.

Frequently asked questions about L-FG 31

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Bonderite L-FG 31: One of the world's most widely used forging release agents — a water-based graphite lubricant for semi-hot, hot, and precision forging with excellent dispersion stability. Main applications: semi-hot, hot, and precision forging.

Forging release agents are applied to the hot forging tool — at tool temperature, they form a lubricating film of micro-fine graphite (or synthetic lubricants in graphite-free variants such as F 605). They reduce friction between the workpiece and the die, extend tool service life, and enable higher dilution ratios. Bonderite L-FG 31 + F 31 (Deltaforge) are the most widely used standards worldwide.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +40 °C, exact values see TDS. Protect water-based products from frost. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Store aerosol sprays at low temperature and in a well-ventilated area.

In the comparison table above, you will find related Bonderite products with different properties — different carrier, different solid lubricant, different temperature range, or different application specialization. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we will be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate, temperature, load, processing workflow).
