Merbenit 2K10
Merbenite ·

Merbenit 2K10 is an elastic 2K-SMP adhesive with a processing time of approximately 30 minutes — cross-linking regardless of humidity, ideal for thick layers and moisture-proof substrates.

Silane-modified polymers (SMPs) are modern, high-performance adhesives—moisture-curing, solvent-, isocyanate-, and silicone-free, with a very broad adhesion spectrum to metals, painted and galvanized surfaces, engineering plastics, glass, ceramics, concrete, stone, and wood. They are paintable, corrosion-resistant, shock- and vibration-resistant, and low-odor. 2K10 is a specific variant of the Merbenit SMP series—its key properties and applications are described below.

30 min pot life + humidity-independent

Merbenit 2K10 is the long-pot, two-component variant—crosslinked through a chemical reaction, independent of humidity. Ideal for thick layers, moisture-proof substrates, and applications with long working times. Shore A 45, 300% elongation at break.

What makes 2K10 stand out

2K — moisture-independent
Cross-linked through chemical reaction — even in thick layers and moisture-proof substrates.
Long processing time (30 min)
Careful processing of even large glued seams.
Rapid curing at room temperature
Efficient networking even at room temperature.
Very broad adhesion spectrum
Versatile substrate compatibility.

Distribute stress peaks evenly — material reduction possible.
Corrosion-protective
Protects metal components from corrosion.

What is 2K10 used for?

Thick adhesive layers
Where 1K does not fully harden due to lack of humidity.
Moisture-proof substrates
Where 1K networking would be disrupted.
Metal construction, apparatus and machine construction
Long adhesive seams with chemical cross-linking.
Bodywork, wagon and container construction
Structural bonding.
Ventilation and air conditioning technology
HVAC systems with tolerance compensation.

processing

1
clean substrate
Degrease, dust, and dry the bonding surfaces. The 2K system cures independently of humidity — even thick layers and moisture-impermeable substrates are possible.
2
Primer (if needed)
Use primer V40 or V21 on critical substrates — for reproducible values.
3
Insert double cartridge
2K system with static mixer nozzle in a dual cartridge gun or machine. Homogenize A and B with the static mixer.
4
Apply
Uniform caterpillar or surface — note pot life 4 min (2K60) or 30 min (2K10).
5
Joining + Pressing
Join components immediately within the pot life and fix them with pressure.
6
Curing
Rapid curing through chemical cross-linking — 2K60 is handle-proof after 30 minutes, 2K10 after 24 hours. Full cross-linking typically takes 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions about 2K10

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Merbenit 2K10: Elastic 2-component SMP adhesive with a working time of approximately 30 minutes — cures independently of humidity, ideal for thick layers and moisture-proof substrates. Main applications: Thick adhesive layers, moisture-proof substrates, metal construction, apparatus and machine construction.

One-component SMP adhesives cure through atmospheric moisture – in thick layers or on moisture-impermeable substrates, the curing process can be significantly delayed. Two-component SMP adhesives cure through a chemical reaction between components A and B – moisture-independent, curing through in thick layers and on non-absorbent substrates. Choose two-component adhesives when: layer thickness > 5 mm, substrates without moisture permeability (glass, metal with dense coating), controlled rapid curing is desired, or processing in a static mixer is required.

2K10 adheres to metals (aluminum, stainless steel, steel), powder-coated and painted surfaces, galvanized/anodized/chromated/zinc-coated substrates, many plastics, ceramics, stone, concrete, crepi, wood, and glass. Not suitable for: PP, PE, PTFE (Teflon), silicones, and bitumen substrates. For critical material pairings, we recommend a preliminary test or application with a primer (V40 for smooth, V21 for absorbent substrates).

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Use opened cartridges quickly — skin formation in the nozzle will block further application.

In the comparison table above, you will find related Merbenit products with different properties—different hardness, pot life, elongation at break, or special certifications (IMO, EN 45545-2, FMVSS 212, ISEGA, Minergie-ECO). If you are unsure which product is best for you, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate pairing, desired hardness, processing workflow, certification requirements).
