RHODORSIL® RTV 141 A/B – Transparent 2K silicone rubber for embedding & insulation

BLUESIL RTV 141 A and B is an addition-curing two-component silicone rubber that cures at room temperature without reaction heat to form a transparent, rubber-elastic vulcanizate. Heating accelerates the crosslinking. Typical applications include filling and embedding electronic components, optoelectronic connections, insulation of photocells, and encapsulation of optical fibers. The good flow behavior facilitates processing, the high transparency ensures excellent optical transmission, and the vulcanizate is resistant to reversion when sealed from air.

BLUESIL RTV 141 A&B E5 is a two-component, addition-curing RTV-2 silicone that cures at room temperature to a transparent elastomer and is used for potting and protecting electronic and optoelectronic components.

After mixing the two components, BLUESIL RTV 141 A&B E5 forms a relatively low-viscosity, colorless liquid that cures into an elastic, transparent material. The reaction does not release heat, and curing can be accelerated by heating.

Transparent potting

Addition-curing RTV-2 silicone with good optical transmission and good pourability, designed for the protection and insulation of light-sensitive and optoelectronic components.

Processing

1
Mixing
Add 10 parts of RTV 141 B E5 to 100 parts of RTV 141 A E5 and mix thoroughly at low speed to minimize air entrapment.
2
Degassing
Degas the mixture in a vacuum at 30 to 50 mbar and interrupt the vacuum several times; this product requires particularly long degassing.
3
Casting
Pour slowly and evenly, starting from the lowest point for thick layers, and do not fill completely to allow for expansion during operation.
4
Curing
Demoldable at 23 °C after approx. 24 to 48 hours, or accelerated: 4 hours at 60 °C, 2 hours at 100 °C, or 1 hour at 150 °C.

Important Notes

  • Curing may be inhibited by contact with sulfur-containing rubbers, metal salt-catalyzed RTV, tin-stabilized PVC, or amine-cured epoxies; if in doubt, test beforehand.
  • Curing at room temperature results in low linear shrinkage (approx. 0.4%), but prevents the vulcanizate from achieving its optimal mechanical properties.
  • The currently valid Elkem data sheet (TDS and SDS) is authoritative, which we will be happy to send you.

Frequently Asked Questions about RTV 141

Practical application and design questions, answered by SILITECH.

100 parts RTV 141 A E5 to 10 parts RTV 141 B E5 (parts).

The pot life of the catalyzed mixture is approx. 4 h at 25 °C.

Yes, degassing at 30 to 50 mbar is recommended to avoid air bubbles; the product must be degassed for a particularly long time.

Adhesion is achieved on most substrates with the primer PRIM PMB 821; the potting should be carried out within four hours after the primer has dried.
