Bonderite · Henkel ·

Bonderite L-CA HKKS is a high-purity semicolloidal graphite-water dispersion for gravity and low-pressure casting of non-ferrous metals — a proven release agent with high opacity and high-temperature resistance.

Bonderite L-CA release agents and mold coatings from Henkel/Acheson for gravity, low-pressure, and die casting of aluminum, zinc, magnesium, and other non-ferrous metals — water-based, with excellent release and insulating properties. L-CA HKKS is tailored to specific industrial applications — the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

Hydrokollag — proven industry standard

Bonderite L-CA HKKS (formerly Hydrokollag Kokillenschlichte) is a high-purity, semi-colloidal graphite dispersion in water—a long-established release agent for gravity and low-pressure casting of non-ferrous metals. Its high opacity and excellent release properties protect insulating coatings from premature wear and produce pore-free castings.

What distinguishes L-CA HKKS

High coverage
Economical in use — low consumption per casting cycle.
Excellent separation effect
It facilitates the separation of the castings from the mold.
High-temperature resistant
Stable at melt casting temperatures.
Pore-free castings
No outgassing raw materials — no gas pores in the casting.
Constant reproducibility
Consistent quality in serial casting production.

What is L-CA HKKS used for?

Gravity casting aluminum
Main application — aluminum gravity casting.
Low-pressure casting of non-ferrous metals
Aluminum, magnesium and alloys.
Topcoat over L-CA CG series
Applied to CG series insulation coatings.
Pore-critical castings
Where gas pores must be avoided at all costs.
Series casting production
Reproducible quality over many cycles.

processing

1
Clean the mold surface
Thoroughly clean the mold of dirt, oil, grease and previous coatings — light sandblasting is ideal, wire brush alternative.
2
Preheat to 160–200 °C
Heat the mold surfaces before application — the water carrier evaporates faster, the layer adheres better.
3
Dilute the concentrate
Dilute the concentrate with water in the specified ratio (see TDS) — typically 1:5 to 1:20 depending on the application.
4
Spray on
Apply evenly to the preheated mold surfaces using a spray gun — a thin, even layer.
5
Layer structure
If necessary, several thin layers — base coat (e.g. L-CA CG series) + top coat (e.g. HKKS).
6
Casting cycle + preservation
Apply a thin layer after each casting to ensure consistent reproducibility.

Frequently asked questions about L-CA HKKS

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Bonderite L-CA HKKS: High-purity semicolloidal graphite-water dispersion for gravity and low-pressure casting of non-ferrous metals — a proven release agent with high opacity and high-temperature resistance. Main applications: Gravity casting of aluminum, low-pressure casting of non-ferrous metals, topcoat over L-CA CG series.

Bonderite L-CA products are specifically tailored to the requirements of foundries—gravity casting, low-pressure casting, and die casting of aluminum, magnesium, zinc, and other non-ferrous metals. Water-based coatings (CG series) form insulating coatings with controlled thermal insulation performance. Release agent emulsions (CP series) are silicone-free for subsequent painting/bonding. Graphite dispersions (HKKS) offer high-temperature release without gas pores.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +40 °C, see TDS for exact values. Protect water-based products from freezing. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Store aerosol sprays at a low temperature and in a well-ventilated area.

In the comparison table above, you will find related Bonderite products with different properties—different carrier media, different solid lubricants, different temperature ranges, or different application specializations. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate, temperature, load, processing workflow).
