CAF 99 AXAD is a 2K-activated silicone (acetic, black, thixotropic) — cross-links quickly even in closed systems and thick layers.

The Elkem CAF series comprises two-component (2K) silicone systems with activator — they cure even in closed gaps and thick layers, without relying on humidity. CAF 99 AXAD is tailored to specific industrial applications — the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

2K — networked in a closed system

Unlike 1K silicones, CAF 99 AXAD also cross-links in closed systems and with thick layers — the right choice when humidity cannot penetrate to the adhesive seam.

What makes CAF 99 AXAD stand out

2K system
Cross-linked by activator — no humidity required, even in closed crevices.
Cross-linked in thick layers
Even thick layers vulcanize completely — 1K limitation bypassed.
Fast curing
Networked in 25-30 minutes — high-throughput capable.
Thixotropic
Stable on vertical surfaces — no dripping or running.
Excellent temperature resistance
Durable in hot applications such as glass-ceramic cooktops.
primer-free
Adhesion to numerous surfaces without pretreatment.

What is CAF 99 AXAD used for?

Glass ceramic cooktops
Bonding of glass-ceramic components in household appliances.
Oven doors and viewing windows
Bonding of viewing windows and door panels in ovens.
Ship portholes
Bonding of glass portholes in shipbuilding and the maritime industry.
Vehicle cabin windows
Bonding of cabin windows in rail vehicles and special vehicles.
stove belts
Sealing of hob edge components in household appliances.
Closed adhesive gaps
Applications where 1K silicones do not crosslink due to lack of humidity.

processing

1
Prepare the substrate
Bonding surfaces must be clean, grease-free, and dry. On copper/zinc: proceed with caution (acetic acid – risk of corrosion).
2
Mix A & B in the correct ratio
Mix the 2K activator system homogeneously according to the TDS mixing ratio — typically with a static mixer or double cartridge.
3
Apply
Apply within the pot life (3–5 min) — cross-links even in closed systems and in thick layers.
4
Add
Immediately assemble the components and fix their position.
5
Curing
Full crosslinking occurs in 25–30 minutes at room temperature. Acceleration is possible with heat.

Important instructions

Substrate preparation
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, grease-free, and dry. Adhesion is not possible on PE, PP, PTFE, and silicone oils. Conduct a preliminary test for critical material pairings.
Storage & Handling
Store in the unopened original container at 5 to 30 °C in a dry place, protected from sunlight. Consult the current SDS before opening.
Corrosion warning (Acetic)
Acetic crosslinking can attack copper, zinc, and galvanized steels. For corrosion-sensitive metals, choose the neutral variant (CAF 530, CAF 731, or CAF 730).
Application advice
SILITECH will advise you on the optimal CAF variant for your application — substrate pairing, corrosion and temperature requirements, desired appearance and processing workflow.

Frequently asked questions about CAF 99 AXAD

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

CAF 99 AXAD: 2K-activated silicone (acetic, black, thixotropic) — cures quickly even in closed systems and thick layers. Main applications include glass-ceramic cooktops, oven doors and viewing windows, and ship portholes.

One-component silicones cure through atmospheric moisture—they cannot fully cure where moisture cannot reach (closed gaps, thick layers, enclosed joints). Two-component systems like CAF 99 AXAD cure via an activator and do not require atmospheric moisture—the right choice when the adhesive joint is enclosed or the layer thickness is large (e.g., glass-ceramic bonding, ship portholes, oven doors).

CAF 99 AXAD adheres without primer to glass, ceramics, many metals (stainless steel, aluminum, copper in neutral variants), and numerous engineering plastics. Adhesion is not possible to PE, PP, PTFE, and silicone oils—these substrates are fundamentally incompatible with silicone. If in doubt, we recommend a preliminary test or consulting SILITECH regarding the specific material pairing.

Prepare the substrate to be clean, grease-free, and dry. Apply the sealant evenly from the cartridge or container—refer to the TDS for skin formation and curing times. Store in the unopened original container at 5 to 30 °C, protected from sunlight. Use opened containers promptly—for Acetic systems, reseal tightly immediately after opening. Consult the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

In the comparison table above, you will find related CAF products with adapted properties—different color, different crosslinking system (acetic vs. neutral), or different mechanical properties. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your requirements (substrate pairing, temperature, corrosion requirements, appearance).
