Product Description

LOCTITE 222 – Low-strength, purple threadlocker for precise small connections up to M6

LOCTITE 222 permanently secures and seals small threads up to M6 against vibrations, but remains removable at any time with hand tools.

Product Description

LOCTITE 222 is the proven, low-strength threadlocker for all situations where screws up to 6.35 mm (¼″) in diameter need to be protected against vibration but can be loosened quickly and without special tools during maintenance. Its anaerobic formula only hardens when sealed between two metal surfaces – ideal for adjusting, countersinking, and set screws in sensitive assemblies.

The thixotropic consistency reliably prevents the adhesive from migrating to adjacent components and allows for clean application even in overhead positions. Thanks to specially formulated activators, LOCTITE 222 adheres even to passive metals such as stainless steel, anodized aluminum, or nickel-plated surfaces – even if thin layers of corrosion protection oil are still present.

With a breaking torque of approximately 6 Nm and a breakaway torque of approximately 4 Nm, the adhesive guarantees a secure bond without compromising disassembly. Its temperature resistance from -55 °C to +150 °C makes LOCTITE 222 a versatile solution for mechanical engineering, plant construction, vehicle manufacturing, and precision mechanics. Furthermore, its NSF P1 certification allows for use in sensitive environments within the food, pharmaceutical, and beverage industries.

Suitable materials

  • Steel & Stainless Steel
  • Aluminum and brass
  • Coated metals (galvanized, nickel-plated, anodized)
  • Passivated surfaces
    (no activator required)

Typical application areas

Adjusting, setting and countersunk screws in:

  • Pumps, gearboxes, presses, compressors
  • Control and regulating devices
  • Electrical and electronic assemblies
  • Measurement and precision engineering
  • Mountings in sensors and actuators

Processing instructions

  1. Preparation: Clean the threads of coarse dirt and oil; thin protective films are not a problem.
  2. Instructions: Apply a drop of LOCTITE 222 to the center of the male thread; for blind holes, also into the main hole.
  3. Assembly: Assemble the components and tighten them with the specified torque.
  4. Initial strength: after approx. 20 minutes (steel); final strength after 24 hours.
  5. Disassembly: Loosen the screw with normal hand tools; for stubborn parts, heat slightly (≈ 150 °C).
  6. Cleaning: Remove residues with LOCTITE cleaner or acetone
