Product Description
LOCTITE 586 is a high-performance, red, liquid sealant based on dimethacrylate ester, specifically designed for sealing and securing metal threaded connections. Anaerobic curing occurs in the absence of air between closely fitting metal surfaces, creating a permanent, instantly tight seal. LOCTITE 586 is particularly suitable for applications requiring high pressure, temperature, and media resistance, such as in hydraulic systems, plumbing, heating, or industrial plants.
The medium-viscosity formula allows for easy application and reliably fills even fine thread gaps. Thanks to its fluorescent properties, quality control under UV light is particularly simple. After installation, LOCTITE 586 provides immediate sealing against low pressures; maximum media and pressure resistance is achieved after complete curing (24 hours).
The product boasts excellent chemical and temperature resistance up to 150 °C and remains permanently stable even when exposed to motor oil, gasoline, brake fluid, ethanol, acetone, and water/glycol. LOCTITE 586 can be removed with standard hand tools; for very large or stubborn bonds, local heating is recommended.

Processing instructions
- Preparation: Clean the threads with LOCTITE cleaner and allow to dry.
- Activator (optional): For inactive metals or large gaps, use activator 7471/7649.
- Application: Apply the product in a ring shape to the beginning of the thread, leaving the first thread free, if necessary also to internal threads.
- Installation: Tighten the screw connection using a tool. Immediate sealing effect against low pressures, full resistance after 24 hours.
- Disassembly: With hand tools, for very tight connections by heating (approx. 250 °C).
- Cleaning: Remove hardened residues with solvent and wire brush.
Note: LOCTITE 586 offers the highest level of safety when sealing metal threads, but is not suitable for oxygen systems, chlorine or plastics.
