Merbenit ·

Merbenit 2K10 is an elastic 2K-SMP adhesive with approx. 30 minutes of processing time — cures independently of air humidity, ideal for thick layers and moisture-proof substrates.

Silan-modified polymers (SMP) are modern high-performance adhesives — moisture-curing, solvent-free, isocyanate-free, and silicone-free, with a very broad adhesion spectrum on metals, painted and galvanized surfaces, engineering plastics, glass, ceramics, concrete, stone, and wood. Paint-compatible, corrosion-protective, shock- and vibration-resistant, low-odor. 2K10 is a specific variant of the Merbenit SMP series — the most important properties and applications are listed below.

30 min pot life + independent of humidity

Merbenit 2K10 is the long-pot-life 2K variant — crosslinked by chemical reaction, independent of humidity. Ideal for thick layers, moisture-proof substrates, and applications with long processing times. Shore A 45, 300% elongation at break.

What sets 2K10 apart

2K — moisture-independent
Crosslinked by chemical reaction — even in thick layers and moisture-proof substrates.
Long open time (30 min)
Careful processing even of large adhesive joints.
Fast curing at room temperature
Efficient crosslinking even at room temperature.
Very broad adhesion spectrum
Versatile substrate compatibility.
Tolerance-compensating
Distribute stress peaks over the surface — material reduction possible.
Corrosion protective
Protects metal components from corrosion.

What is 2K10 used for?

Thick bond lines
Where 1K does not fully cure due to lack of ambient humidity.
Moisture-tight substrates
Where 1K crosslinking would be impaired.
Metal construction, apparatus and mechanical engineering
Long adhesive seams with chemical crosslinking.
Body, wagon, and container construction
Structural bonding.
Ventilation and air conditioning technology
HVAC systems with tolerance compensation.
High-quality industrial bonding
Applications with long processing time requirements.

Processing

1
Clean substrate
Degrease, dedust, and dry the bonding surfaces. The 2K system cures independently of air humidity — even thick layers and moisture-impermeable substrates are possible.
2
Primer (if required)
On critical substrates, use Primer V40 or V21 — for reproducible values.
3
Insert the double cartridge
2K system with static mixer nozzle in double cartridge gun or machine. Homogenize A and B with static mixer.
4
Application
Uniform bead or surface — observe pot life of 4 min (2K60) or 30 min (2K10).
5
Joining + pressing
Join parts immediately within the pot life, fix with contact pressure.
6
Curing
Fast curing through chemical crosslinking — 2K60 is handleable after 30 min, 2K10 after 24 h. Full curing typically after 48 h.

Frequently asked questions about 2K10

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Merbenit 2K10: Elastic 2K-SMP adhesive with approx. 30 minutes working time — crosslinks independent of humidity, ideal for thick layers and moisture-proof substrates. Main applications: Thick adhesive layers, moisture-proof substrates, metal construction, apparatus and machinery construction.

1K-SMP adhesives crosslink through air humidity — with thick layers or moisture-impermeable substrates, crosslinking in the interior can be significantly delayed. 2K-SMP adhesives crosslink through a chemical reaction between Component A and B — independent of humidity, curing through in thick layers and on non-absorbent substrates. Choose 2K when: layer thickness > 5 mm, substrates without moisture permeability (glass, metal with dense coating), controlled rapid curing is desired, processing in a static mixer machine.

2K10 adheres to metals (aluminum, stainless steel, steel), powder-coated and painted surfaces, galvanized/anodized/chromated/zinc-coated substrates, many plastics, ceramics, stone, concrete, render, wood, and glass. Not suitable for: PP, PE, PTFE (Teflon), silicones, and bituminous substrates. For critical material combinations, we recommend a preliminary test or the use of a primer (V40 for smooth, V21 for absorbent substrates).

Store in unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C. Consult the safety data sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Process opened cartridges promptly — skin formation in the nozzle will block further application.

In the comparison table above, you will find related Merbenit products with different properties — different hardness, pot life, elongation at break, or special certifications (IMO, EN 45545-2, FMVSS 212, ISEGA, Minergie-ECO). If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we will be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate pairing, desired hardness, processing workflow, certification requirement).
