Product Description

Bluesil Primer PM 820 is a high-performance adhesion promoter primer for bonding silicone to polar plastics (polyamide, polyester, ABS, polypropylene) and composite materials.

Bluesil adhesion promoter primers prepare critical substrates (metal, plastic, glass, polyester) for bonding with silicone elastomers, resulting in significantly higher shear strength than untreated substrates. Primer PM 820 is tailored to specific applications—the most important properties and areas of use are listed below.

High-performance primers for polar plastics

Bluesil Primer PM 820 is a specialized adhesion promoter for polar engineering plastics such as polyamide, polyester, ABS, and polypropylene—substrates that are otherwise difficult to bond with silicone. It is proven effective for bonding composite components with 30% glass fiber content.

Processing

1
Clean substrate
Degrease with acetone or isopropanol, if necessary sand with sandpaper — remove oxide layers and contaminants.
2
Apply primer thinly
Apply with a brush, by dipping, or by spraying — a thin, even layer. Avoid multiple applications — this impairs adhesion.
3
Allow to dry
Allow to dry for at least 30 min at 23 °C — longer under humid conditions. Do not touch during drying.
4
Bond within 6 hours
Apply the silicone within 6 hours after the primer has dried — if you wait longer, renew the primer.
5
Cure the bond
Allow Bluesil RTV/CAF to crosslink according to the manufacturer's workflow — primed substrates achieve significantly higher shear strength.

Frequently asked questions about Primer PM 820

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Bluesil Primer PM 820: High-performance adhesion promoter primer for bonding silicone to polar plastics (polyamide, polyester, ABS, polypropylene) and composite materials. Main applications: polyamide bonding, polyester components, ABS bonding.

First prepare the substrate clean, grease-free and dry (degrease with acetone, sand if necessary). Apply the primer thinly and evenly with a brush or by dipping. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes at 23 °C, then apply the silicone (RTV/CAF/Bluesil) to the primed area. For polyaddition silicones, the primer must not contain any inhibitors.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically standard between +5 and +30 °C, exact values see TDS. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiration date on the packaging — Elkem guarantees the sales specifications only up to the stated date.

In the comparison table above, you will find related products with similar functions or related specifications. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we will be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with your application (desired property, substrate, processing workflow).
