Permabond UV7141 is a dual-cure adhesive with UV and anaerobic curing mechanisms — designed for glass-to-metal bonding with shadowed areas where UV light cannot reach the adhesive.

With ceramic-coated glass, backlit mirrors, or designs with overlapping adhesive surfaces, UV light cannot fully reach the adhesive — standard UV adhesives would not cure in the shadowed areas and would remain uncured.

UV7141 solves the problem with a dual curing mechanism: UV curing ensures positional fixation in seconds—even without holding devices—while simultaneously, anaerobic curing begins in the shaded area. After 24 hours, the bond is fully cured, with a glass-to-steel strength of 14–17 N/mm².

SPECIAL FEATURE

Dual-Cure UV + Anaerobic — the unique combination of two curing mechanisms: UV light for visible adhesive seams, anaerobic for shadowed areas where UV light cannot penetrate (e.g., behind ceramic-coated glass or in mirror bonding). Positioning in seconds + subsequent full curing.

What distinguishes Permabond UV7141

Dual-cure UV + Anaerobic
It also hardens in shaded areas.
Positioning in seconds
With UV light — no holding devices required.
High Feast
14–17 N/mm² glass-steel, 20 N/mm² tensile strength.
>98% light transmission
Visually clear bonding.
Medium viscosity
1,200–1,700 mPa·s — standard geometry.
Higher production speed
Rapid UV positioning accelerates line cycle time.

What is Permabond UV7141 used for?

Ceramic-coated glass
UV light does not always reach the adhesive gaps.
Mirror bonding
There is a shadow area behind the mirror.
Glass-metal with overlapping surfaces
When UV light does not penetrate completely.
Line production with UV lamps
Rapid positioning + subsequent full curing.
Designs with dark substrates
Black plastics partially block UV radiation.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with isopropanol or acetone. For aluminum/copper, lightly sand to remove the oxide layer. Test compatibility on plastics.
2
Apply adhesive thinly
Apply Permabond UV7141 thinly and evenly – directly from the bottle or using a dispensing device. Keep the adhesive protected from light. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Adding and aligning components
Quickly and precisely assemble. When bonding glass, spread the adhesive into a thin film by applying pressure. Do not move components during UV curing.
4
Cure with UV light
Point the UV lamp at the adhesive gap. Curing time depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components — typically 1–5 seconds for a 30 W/cm² fiber optic system or 5–15 seconds for a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp.
5
Full strength after UV irradiation
After complete UV curing, the components are immediately ready for handling. Final strength is achieved immediately after irradiation. For dual-cure products (UV + anaerobic), an additional 24 hours are required for complete anaerobic curing of the shaded areas.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
Store away from light. Anaerobic curing requires metal contact in the adhesive gap.
storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C and protect from direct sunlight. Curing begins under UV light — keep the bottle in the dark and open only under UV-blocked light.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond UV7141

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond UV7141 is a methacrylic acid ester (UV + anaerobic) adhesive with a viscosity of 1,200–1,700 mPa·s @ 20 rpm. Dual-cure UV + anaerobic — cures even in shaded areas, for ceramic-coated glass and mirrors. The adhesive cures upon irradiation with UV light in the spectral range of 365–420 nm — instantaneous curing "on demand".

Permabond UV7141 cures in the spectral range of 365–420 nm. Standard mercury vapor UV lamps, LED UV lamps with a suitable wavelength, or UV light guide systems are all suitable. For LED lamps, the maximum wavelength of the LED must be matched to the curing spectrum of the adhesive—we are happy to advise you on selecting the right lamp.

The UV curing time of Permabond UV7141 depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components. Typical curing times range from seconds to a few minutes.

Permabond UV7141 bonds reliably to glass/steel: 14–17 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, we recommend testing compatibility before series production — release agents on injection-molded parts can impair adhesion.

Permabond UV7141 is a dual-cure UV + anaerobic (for shaded areas) (1,200–1,700 mPa·s @ 20 rpm viscosity, 20–50% elongation at break). Permabond UV6160 is optically clear and thick (1,000–2,000 mPa·s, 100–150% elongation at break) — pure UV curing.

When stored at 5 to 25 °C and protected from light, Permabond UV7141 is stable until the printed expiration date. IMPORTANT: UV adhesives cure upon contact with light — always store the bottle in the dark and only open it briefly under UV-blocked light. Daylight-stable variants (e.g., UV675) can be used briefly under ambient light.

From the Permabond UV range, select according to substrate, viscosity, and special properties: Permabond UV7141 (Dual-cure UV + Anaerobic (for shaded areas)); Permabond UV6160 (Optically clear, thick); Permabond UV6231 (Outdoor weather); Permabond UV610 (High-strength glass furniture). For shaded areas (where UV light does not fully reach the adhesive gap), a dual-cure variant such as Permabond UV7141 (UV + Anaerobic) should be used.
