Bluesil Primer 131 is a universal adhesion promoter primer for bonding silicone elastomers to stainless steel, aluminum, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and many metals.

Bluesil adhesion promoter primers prepare critical substrates (metal, plastic, glass, polyester) for bonding with silicone elastomers, resulting in significantly higher shear strength than untreated substrates. Primer 131 is tailored to specific applications—the most important properties and areas of use are listed below.

Universal primer for metals and engineering plastics

Bluesil Primer 131 is the proven universal adhesion promoter for the Bluesil RTV and CAF ranges — especially for stainless steel, aluminum, and PMMA. First, prepare the substrate clean and degreased, then apply the primer and allow it to dry for at least 30 minutes before applying the silicone.

processing

1
clean substrate
Degrease with acetone or isopropanol, if necessary sand with sandpaper — remove oxide layers and impurities.
2
Apply primer thinly
Apply with a brush, by dipping, or by spraying – a thin, even layer. Avoid multiple coats – this impairs adhesion.
3
Let dry
Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes at 23°C — longer in humid conditions. Do not touch during drying.
4
Apply within 24 hours
Apply the silicone within 24 hours after the primer has dried — if you wait longer, renew the primer.
5
Allow the adhesive to cure
Crosslink Bluesil RTV/CAF according to the manufacturer's workflow — primed substrates achieve significantly higher shear strength.

Frequently asked questions about Primer 131

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Bluesil Primer 131: Universal adhesion promoter primer for bonding silicone elastomers to stainless steel, aluminum, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and many other metals. Main applications: stainless steel bonding, aluminum bonding, PMMA bonding.

First, prepare the substrate to be clean, grease-free, and dry (degrease with acetone, sand if necessary). Apply the primer thinly and evenly using a brush or dipping method. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes at 23°C, then apply the silicone (RTV/CAF/Bluesil) to the primed area. For polyaddition silicones, the primer must not contain inhibitors.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C, see TDS for exact values. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging — Elkem guarantees the product's specifications only until the date shown.
