BLUESIL RTV 3041 A
BLUESIL RTV 3041 A
Bluesil Elkem Silicones SKU 40-3041A

Bluesil RTV 3041 A & B is a transparent 2K addition silicone rubber (Pt) for the high-precision reproduction of 3D objects — also available in the SB (Self-Bleeding) variant.

This product line comprises 2K polyaddition silicone elastomers (platinum-catalyzed) for mold making — without reaction byproducts, offering excellent detail reproduction and reusability. RTV 3041 is tailored to specific industrial applications — the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

Highly transparent + self-bleeding variant

Bluesil RTV 3041 combines excellent transparency with outstanding mechanical properties. The SB (Self-Bleeding) variant allows trapped air bubbles to escape automatically—ideal when vacuum venting is not possible.

What distinguishes the RTV 3041

Excellent transparency
Clear view of the model during casting — important for visible detail control.
Self-bleeding variant (SB)
RTV 3041 SB B removes trapped air automatically — no vacuum degassing required.
Exceptional mechanics
Tensile strength 22 N/mm, elongation at break 350 % — long shape life.
High-resolution reproduction
Suitable for complex 3D objects made of PU, wax, foam, epoxy, polyester.
Long processing time (75 min)
Careful, slow pouring even with large molds.
Freely combinable in the series
Bluesil RTV 3041 can be coordinated with other Bluesil products within the series.

What is the RTV 3041 used for?

Reproduction of PU components
Reproducing 3D polyurethane objects in series.
Wax and foam reproduction
Detailed reproduction of soft originals.
Epoxy resin replicas
Reproduction of epoxy models for prototypes and production.
Polyester castings
Molding tool for polyester composites.
Visual inspection applications
Transparent form for direct observation of the pouring process.
Self-service application without vacuum
Processing without a vacuum chamber thanks to the self-bleeding variant.

processing

1
Stir A and B separately
Stir both components thoroughly before each processing step — avoid sedimentation.
2
Mix in the correct proportions
Dose by weight (see comparison table: 10:1 or 1:1). Homogenize thoroughly with a low-speed mixer.
3
Degas in a vacuum
30–50 mbar vacuum — material expands 3–4 times, bubbles escape, collapses after 5–10 min. Interrupt the vacuum several times for better degassing.
4
Pour slowly
Pour slowly from the lowest point of the mold – this prevents air entrapment. Avoid inhibitors when using polyaddition (sulfur rubber, Sn-RTV, amine epoxides, PVC).
5
Allow to harden
Demoldable at 23 °C after demolding time (see TDS). Heat accelerates demolding — at higher temperatures the dimensions may change.
6
demolding
Carefully remove from the mold, separating the mold halves if necessary. Clean the mold before recasting — release agents are usually not required.

Important instructions

Mixing & Dosage
Stir A and B thoroughly before each use. Use precise dosage in the specified ratio (see table above) — ideally by weight. Incorrect dosage will result in incomplete cross-linking.
Degassing
Degas the mixture under a vacuum of 30–50 mbar. The material expands 3–4 times, then contracts back to its original size after 5–10 minutes. Interrupt the vacuum several times for better degassing.
Avoid inhibitors
Polyaddition silicones are inhibited by: sulfur-vulcanized rubber, tin-catalyzed RTV, amine epoxides, and PVC with tin salts. If in doubt, conduct a preliminary test.

Frequently asked questions about RTV 3041

Practical questions regarding processing and design — answered by SILITECH.

Bluesil RTV 3041 A & B: Transparent 2K addition silicone rubber (Pt) for the high-precision reproduction of 3D objects — also available in a self-bleeding (SB) version. Main applications include the reproduction of PU components, wax and foam reproduction, and epoxy resin replicas.

Polyaddition crosslinking is a two-component silicone chemistry using a platinum catalyst. Component A contains the platinum complex, and component B contains the SiH crosslinker. When mixed, the components crosslink without releasing reaction byproducts—no shrinkage due to outgassing, excellent dimensional accuracy, and low linear shrinkage. Important: Polyaddition silicones are inhibited by various substances—sulfur-vulcanized natural rubbers, tin-catalyzed RTV silicones, amine-catalyzed epoxy resins, and tin-stabilized PVC. In case of doubt, a preliminary test should be carried out.

Thoroughly stir components A and B before each processing step. Measure precisely according to the mixing ratio specified in the TDS (see comparison table above) – ideally by weight. Mix with an electric or pneumatic agitator at low speed (minimize air entrainment). Degas the mixture under vacuum (30–50 mbar) – the material will expand 3–4 times its original volume, bubbles will escape, and the material will settle back after 5–10 minutes. Then slowly pour into the mold from the lowest point to avoid air entrapment. For polyaddition systems, avoid contact with inhibitors (sulfur-based rubber, tin-based RTV, amine epoxides, PVC with tin salts).

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C, see TDS for exact values. Store components A and B separately; seal airtight after opening. Polyaddition systems are insensitive to moisture, but should be stored in a cool place to maintain pot life. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

The comparison table above lists related RTV products with different hardnesses, pot lives, or application profiles. If you are unsure which product is best for you, we would be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with details of your application (substrate, desired hardness, processing time, mechanical requirements, and durability).
