CAF 30 White is an industrial 1K silicone sealant (acetic, white) with high elongation at break for railway and heating appliance seals.

The Elkem CAF range comprises one-component (1K), moisture-curing silicone sealants – ready-to-use from the cartridge, with high temperature and chemical resistance. CAF 30 White is tailored to specific industrial applications – its key properties and areas of application are listed below.

High elongation at break

CAF 30 is characterized by particularly high elongation at break — it withstands differential thermal expansion between different materials, such as glass-metal in railway vehicles or heating appliances.

processing

1
Prepare the substrate
Clean, grease-free, and dry bonding surfaces — degrease with acetone or isopropanol. On copper/zinc: avoid the acetic acid variant (corrosion).
2
Cut the cartridge tip
Cut the tip at an angle to the desired cross-section of the bead. For 310 ml cartridges: Use a standard cartridge gun.
3
Apply
Apply an even bead. For sandwich bonding, apply a thin layer to both sides and join immediately.
4
Smoothing (optional)
Smooth with a smoothing tool or moistened spatula during the skin formation time.
5
Curing
Skin formation typically takes 6–10 minutes, cross-linking reaches 2 mm in 6–8 hours, and is fully cross-linked after 24–72 hours. Cross-linking is accelerated by heat and higher humidity.

Important instructions

Substrate preparation
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, grease-free, and dry. Adhesion is not possible on PE, PP, PTFE, and silicone oils. Conduct a preliminary test for critical material pairings.
Storage & Handling
Store in the unopened original container at 5 to 30 °C in a dry place, protected from sunlight. Consult the current SDS before opening.
Corrosion warning (Acetic)
Acetic crosslinking can attack copper, zinc, and galvanized steels. For corrosion-sensitive metals, choose the neutral variant (CAF 530, CAF 731, or CAF 730).
Application advice
SILITECH will advise you on the optimal CAF variant for your application — substrate pairing, corrosion and temperature requirements, desired appearance and processing workflow.

Frequently asked questions about CAF 30 White

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

CAF 30 White: Industrial 1K silicone sealant (acetic, white) with high elongation at break for railway and heating equipment sealing. Main applications include railway vehicle sealing, heating equipment sealing, and industrial bonding.

Acetic cure (acetic acid crosslinking) means that the 1K system crosslinks through atmospheric moisture and releases small amounts of acetic acid during curing—recognizable by its characteristic odor. Acetic systems are established, economical industry standards with excellent adhesion to glass, ceramics, and many metals. Caution: Acetic acid can cause corrosion on copper, zinc, and electroplated steels—use a neutral variant (e.g., CAF 530, CAF 731, or CAF 730) for these materials.

CAF 30 White adheres without primer to glass, ceramics, many metals (stainless steel, aluminum, copper in neutral variants), and numerous engineering plastics. Adhesion is not possible to PE, PP, PTFE, and silicone oils—these substrates are fundamentally incompatible with silicone. If in doubt, we recommend a preliminary test or consulting SILITECH regarding the specific material pairing.

Prepare the substrate to be clean, grease-free, and dry. Apply the sealant evenly from the cartridge or container—refer to the TDS for skin formation and curing times. Store in the unopened original container at 5 to 30 °C, protected from sunlight. Use opened containers promptly—for Acetic systems, reseal tightly immediately after opening. Consult the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

In the comparison table above, you will find related CAF products with adapted properties—different color, different crosslinking system (acetic vs. neutral), or different mechanical properties. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your requirements (substrate pairing, temperature, corrosion requirements, appearance).
