Primer and adhesion promoter. Reliable adhesion for silicones

Silicones do not adhere reliably to all substrates. Silicone primers significantly improve the adhesion of RTV-1 and RTV-2 silicones to difficult substrates such as metals, glass, ceramics, and many plastics. When used correctly, adhesion strengths exceeding the cohesive strength of the silicone can be achieved; the decisive factor is the adhesion test on the original substrate.

How silicone primers work

Primers create a chemical bridge between the substrate and the silicone. They are applied thinly to the cleaned surface and require a drying time before the silicone application, as specified in the technical data sheet.

What matters when making your selection

The choice of primer depends on the substrate and the silicone's curing system (addition or condensation curing). Cleaning and surface pretreatment are equally crucial. We recommend adhesion testing on the original substrate under real-world process conditions in all cases.
