DOWSIL 732 Multi Purpose Sealant, 1K Silicone Sealant and Adhesive
Brief description
DOWSIL 732 is a one-component silicone sealant and adhesive (RTV) for universal sealing and bonding applications in industrial environments. The material is non-sagging (non-running), easy to apply, and cures at room temperature through exposure to humidity to form a tough, permanently elastic rubber . Available in white and transparent (clear to translucent).
Your advantages with DOWSIL 732
- 1K, ready to use: no mixing, no pot life, direct processing
- Non-running: ideal for vertical joints and gaps
- Rapid skin formation: Skin Over (typically approx. 7 minutes), Tack Free (typically approx. 20 minutes)
- Permanently elastic and robust: hardens into a tough, flexible rubber.
- Wide temperature range: stable and flexible from -60 °C to +180 °C, briefly up to +205 °C
- Good electrical insulation: excellent dielectric properties
- Standards and conformity : meets, among others, MIL A 46106 and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 requirements (Rubber articles intended for repeated use)
White or transparent: which version is right?
White
- When the joint is visible and should appear visually clean
- Typical for housings, covers, apparatus construction, light-colored surfaces
Transparent (clear to translucent)
- If the joint is to remain as inconspicuous as possible
- Typical for glass, visible surfaces, transparent covers
Typical applications
DOWSIL 732 is suitable for general industrial sealing and bonding applications, for example:
- Sealing housings, covers, and penetrations against moisture and dust
- Elastic bonding, fixing and joint sealing in the MRO environment
- Applications where density and electrical insulation are required simultaneously
Key technical data (typical values)
- Consistency: firm paste, non-sag
- Extrusion rate: typically 350 g/min
- Skin Over: typically 7 minutes
- Free trial: typically 20 minutes
- Density: typical. 1.04
- Hardness: typical Shore A 25
- Tensile strength: typ. 2.3 MPa
- Elongation at break: typical. 540 %
- Curing time: approx. 3 mm in 24 h at room temperature and 50% relative humidity
Instructions for use (to ensure reliable adhesion)
- Prepare the surface: Ensure it is clean and dry, degreased, and free of contaminants. Suitable solvents include isopropanol, acetone, or MEK.
- Application and joining: Apply material to a surface, then join it promptly.
- Smoothing: Finish tool machining before skin formation.
- Allow to harden: Hardening proceeds from the outside in; deeper cross-sections require correspondingly more time.
- Optimize adhesion: Unprimed adhesion is possible on many substrates. For maximum adhesion, Dow recommends the DOWSIL 1200 OS Primer.
Information on material compatibility
- DOWSIL 732 is an acetoxy-curing agent. Byproducts (typically acetic acid odor) are formed during curing. Test the suitability of DOWSIL 732 for corrosion-sensitive metals and in closed volumes in the specific setup.
- Good adhesion is possible on many substrates; PTFE, PE, PP and related materials are typically problematic
