LOCTITE 270 – High-strength threadlocker for permanent metal connections
LOCTITE 270 is the preferred choice when fasteners need to be permanently and securely secured. This high-strength threadlocker is ideal for applications on bolts, studs, threaded rods, nuts, and other metal fasteners where loosening due to shock, vibration, or high loads must be reliably prevented. Its low viscosity allows LOCTITE 270 to penetrate threads optimally, guaranteeing full-surface locking.
Anaerobic curing begins as soon as the adhesive is sealed off from air between closely adhering metal surfaces. LOCTITE 270 achieves very high final strength – even on passive metals such as stainless steel, chrome-plated or galvanized surfaces, as well as on typical active metals such as brass and copper. Even slight surface contamination from oils (e.g., cutting, lubricating, or corrosion protection oils) does not impair its performance.
With a tensile strength of up to 33 Nm (M10 steel), excellent chemical and temperature resistance up to +150 °C and NSF-P1 approval for use in food production, LOCTITE 270 is ideally suited for mechanical and plant engineering, vehicle technology, maintenance and industrial assembly.

Suitable materials
LOCTITE® 270 is particularly suitable for use with:
- Steel and stainless steel
- Brass and copper
- Passivated, coated or electroplated metal surfaces
-
Not recommended for plastics (especially thermoplastics)
Typical areas of application
- Screw connections on motor and pump housings
- Stud bolts, threaded rods, bearing caps
- Nuts on studs in heavily stressed areas
- Assemblies in mechanical and plant engineering
- Heavy-duty connections and fastenings in agricultural machinery, construction and commercial vehicles
- Assembly of flange connections and flange bolts
- Maintenance and repair (e.g., tamper protection)
Processing instructions
- Preparation: Clean screw connections (e.g. with LOCTITE cleaner); slight oil residues are tolerated.
- Application: Apply the product to the male thread or, in the case of blind holes, directly into the bore.
- Assembly: Install the screw connection immediately and tighten to the required torque.
- Curing time: Hand strength after approx. 10–30 minutes, final strength after 24 hours.
- Disassembly: Connection is only possible by heating to approx. 250 °C and then loosening with a tool.
- Cleaning: Hardened residues can be removed mechanically (e.g., with a wire brush) and by soaking in solvent.

Anaerobic threadlockers can prevent parts from loosening due to vibrations and leakage, protect threaded parts from corrosion, and increase the reliability of mechanical fasteners.
The standard continuous operating temperature range for anaerobic adhesives is -55 °C to +150 °C. High-performance products with higher temperature resistance are also available for specific application conditions. Please contact the SILITECH team for details on availability and product selection.
Yes, anaerobic adhesives cure into highly resistant thermosetting polymers and are therefore suitable for a wide range of applications. Learn more in our online product resources or contact us for further information.
SILITECH offers a variety of products with NSF®and WRAS®approvals in different classes. Please contact us with your specific requirements so we can find the best solution for you.
Yes, all these products are anaerobic adhesives and function similarly. However, variations in adhesive properties (viscosity, gap-filling capacity, strength, etc.) make them better suited for specific applications. For more information, please refer to the technical product data sheets or contact a Henkel representative.
Caution is advised when using adhesives for sealing in systems containing pure oxygen. LOCTITE 577 and LOCTITE 55 are BAM-approved and can be used for such applications.
All necessary health and safety measures and requirements for PPE (personal protective equipment) are listed in the product's material safety data sheet.
