LOCTITE AA 3491 – UV-curing, transparent acrylic adhesive for glass and multi-material bonding

Product description

LOCTITE AA 3491 is a one-component, modified acrylic adhesive specifically designed for highly transparent, impact-resistant bonds. It cures within seconds under UV light (365 nm) and offers excellent resistance to moisture, water, and repeated dishwasher cycles.

Thanks to its optical clarity, it is particularly suitable for applications where the adhesive joint should remain almost invisible, for example on decorative glass surfaces, shaped glassware or automotive lighting components.

The product can be cured with low or high intensity UV light and is particularly suitable for rapid mass production. Its high heat and aging resistance makes LOCTITE AA 3491 a reliable choice for demanding industrial applications.

Suitable materials

  • Glass (clear or textured)
  • aluminum
  • Steel and stainless steel
  • Epoxy resin composites (G-10)
  • PVC
  • ABS
  • Polycarbonate*
  • Acrylic glass*

* Check for stress cracks beforehand.

Typical areas of application

  • Glass-glass connections with high optical requirements
  • Bonding of decorative glass surfaces
  • Production of molded glassware
  • Installation of automotive lighting
  • Potting and sealing applications
  • Mass production with short cycle times

Processing instructions

  1. Keep bonding surfaces clean, dry and grease-free.
  2. Process the product in a light-protected manner (UV-sensitive).
  3. Application via black dispensing lines to prevent premature hardening.
  4. Recommended UV intensity: min. 40 mW/cm² for adhesive applications.
  5. For surface hardening in coatings or potting: min. 100 mW/cm².
  6. Protect sensitive plastics from overheating.
  7. Remove excess, uncured adhesive with acetone.
  8. Allow the adhesive to cool after it has cured before applying any stress.
