Permabond ET514 is a high-strength 2K epoxy in a 1:1 volume ratio — developed for demanding industrial bonding applications with high strength requirements on metal and composite materials.

With a pot life of 30–50 minutes, ET514 offers sufficient time for component alignment before curing to a high-strength, permanent bond. Its steel shear strength of 20–30 N/mm² is among the best of 2-component epoxies.

On carbon fiber composites, ET514 achieves a bond strength of 17–21 N/mm² — suitable for CFRP structural bonding in mechanical engineering and sporting goods construction. Its simple 1:1 application allows for use in dual cartridges.

APPLICATION PROFILE

High-strength standard 2-component epoxy with a balanced pot life — 20–30 N/mm² shear strength on steel and 17–21 N/mm² on carbon fiber composites. The all-round choice for demanding industrial bonding applications.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For twin cartridges: attach mixing nozzle, press evenly (1:1 by volume mixing ratio). For larger containers: weigh resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air entrapment.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to a bonding surface within the pot life (30–50 minutes @ 23 °C). Join the components with sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive is distributed over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components during curing
Use a clamping device or clamp to ensure the components do not move during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength according to the TDS.
5
Full cure at room temperature
Final strength is typically achieved after 24 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If necessary, optionally post-cure at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Important Notes

Important Notes
Lightly sand aluminum and copper surfaces for optimal adhesion. Degrease surfaces before bonding (Permabond Cleaner A). Test compatibility with thermoplastic substrates.
Storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Keep 2K epoxy components in closed packaging — especially protect the hardener from moisture.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond ET514

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

High-strength standard 2K epoxy 1:1 — steel shear strength 20–30 N/mm² and carbon fiber bonding. The 2K epoxy is mixed in a 1:1 volume ratio and offers a pot life of 30–50 minutes @ 23 °C.

Mix both components in a 1:1 ratio by volume — use the mixing nozzle for dual cartridges, weigh precisely for larger containers. Apply within the pot life (30–50 minutes @ 23 °C) and join components. Full curing typically occurs after 24 hours at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET514 is typically 30–50 minutes at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures lengthen the pot life. Mixtures above approximately 100 g may gel more quickly due to an exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET514 bonds reliably to: Steel: 20–30 N/mm²; Aluminum: —; Carbon fiber: 17–21 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, test compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET514 does not have specific industry-specific approvals such as EU 10/2011 (food), UL94 (fire protection), or Boeing/Airbus (aerospace). For general industrial applications, the product is approved according to Permabond standards.

Permabond ET514 is a high-strength, 2-component epoxy 1:1 — a standard adhesive for metals and composites (1:1 volume mix, 30–50 minutes pot life @ 23 °C). Permabond ET515 is highly flexible (1:1, 10–20 min pot life) — flexible, aerospace, short pot life.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy range, select according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirements: Permabond ET514 (High-strength 2K epoxy 1:1 — standard adhesive for metal and [unclear]); Permabond ET515 (Highly flexible); Permabond ET536 (Highest strength); Permabond ET500 (Fast). For aerospace, see ET515 (Aircraft seat trays); for food applications, see ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal conductivity/fire protection, see ET5441 (UL94-V0).
