Permabond UV6357 is a cold-resistant, UV-curing adhesive — specially developed for refrigerator and freezer components and mixed substrate bonding (glass, metal, plastic including epoxy-coated components).

With an elongation at break of 440%, UV6357 is exceptionally flexible — its consistency buffers thermal stresses between dissimilar materials (glass to metal to plastic). This flexibility is retained even at temperatures below 0 °C — Permabond specifically developed the product for refrigeration and freezing applications.

The special application is the bonding of mixed substrates: glass to metal, steel to polycarbonate, aluminum to glass, even PVC to PVC or PA 6.6 to polycarbonate. With a viscosity of 35,000 mPa·s, UV6357 is highly viscous — it remains stable in vertical bonds and fills large tolerances down to 0.2 mm.

SPECIAL FEATURE

Cold-resistant — suitable for use even below 0 °C. Specially developed for refrigerator and freezer components. With 440% elongation at break and multi-substrate bonding (glass, metal, plastics including epoxy-coated metal) — the unique all-round choice.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with isopropanol or acetone. For aluminum/copper, lightly sand to remove the oxide layer. Test compatibility on plastics.
2
Apply adhesive thinly
Apply Permabond UV6357 thinly and evenly – directly from the bottle or using a dispensing device. Keep the adhesive protected from light. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Adding and aligning components
Quickly and precisely assemble. When bonding glass, spread the adhesive into a thin film by applying pressure. Do not move components during UV curing.
4
Cure with UV light
Point the UV lamp at the adhesive gap. Curing time depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components — typically 1–5 seconds for a 30 W/cm² fiber optic system or 5–15 seconds for a 4 mW/cm² low-power lamp.
5
Full strength after UV irradiation
After complete UV curing, the components are immediately ready for handling. Final strength is achieved immediately after irradiation. For dual-cure products (UV + anaerobic), an additional 24 hours are required for complete anaerobic curing of the shaded areas.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond UV6357

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond UV6357 is a methacrylate ester (UV-curing, long-wave) adhesive with a viscosity of 35,000 mPa·s @ 20 rpm. This cold-resistant UV adhesive is suitable for use in refrigerators and freezers—even below 0 °C—and can be used with mixed substrates. The adhesive cures upon exposure to UV light in the 365–400 nm spectral range—curing in seconds, "on demand.".

Permabond UV6357 cures in the spectral range of 365–400 nm. Standard mercury vapor UV lamps, LED UV lamps with a suitable wavelength, or UV light guide systems are all suitable. For LED lamps, the maximum wavelength of the LED must be matched to the curing spectrum of the adhesive—we are happy to advise you on selecting the right lamp.

The UV curing of Permabond UV6357 depends on the lamp power, wavelength, and light transmittance of the components. Typical curing times range from seconds to a few minutes.

Permabond UV6357 bonds reliably to: polycarbonate: 6–7 N/mm²; acrylic: 3–4 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, we recommend testing compatibility before series production — release agents on injection-molded parts can impair adhesion.

Permabond UV6357 is a cold-resistant UV adhesive for mixed bonding (glass/metal/plastic) (35,000 mPa·s @ 20 rpm viscosity, 440% elongation at break). Permabond UV6231 is outdoor weather-resistant (5,000–8,000 mPa·s, >120% elongation at break).

When stored at 5 to 25 °C and protected from light, Permabond UV6357 is stable until the printed expiration date. IMPORTANT: UV adhesives cure upon contact with light — always store the bottle in the dark and only open it briefly under UV-blocked light. Daylight-stable variants (e.g., UV675) can be used briefly under ambient light.

From the Permabond UV range, select according to substrate, viscosity, and special properties: Permabond UV6357 (cold-resistant UV adhesive for mixed bonds (glass/metal/plastic)); Permabond UV6231 (outdoor weather); Permabond UV649 (plastic gel); Permabond UV639 (highly elastic). In shaded areas (where UV light does not fully reach the adhesive gap), a dual-cure variant such as Permabond UV7141 (UV + anaerobic) should be used.
