PERMABOND 130UV
PERMABOND 130UV
Permabond Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd

Permabond 130UV is a dual-cure cyanoacrylate adhesive — it cures with both UV light and atmospheric humidity. This combines the speed of UV curing with the substrate independence of classic cyanoacrylates.

With a viscosity of only 200 mPa·s, low blooming, and transparent appearance after curing, Permabond 130UV is ideal for visible components, optical applications, and medical devices. The product meets ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity testing requirements and is RoHS compliant.

A special feature: Permabond 130UV passes the demanding 85 °C / 85% relative humidity test — qualifying it for automotive and HVAC applications. Its service temperature up to 120 °C significantly surpasses that of standard cyanoacrylates.

BIOCOMPATIBILITY

ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity passed — biocompatible tested, qualified for medical and hygiene-related applications.

What makes Permabond 130UV stand out

Dual-cure: UV + moisture
UV light cures visible areas tack-free in seconds — shadowed areas are further cured by humidity. The best of both worlds.
Suitable for medical use (ISO 10993-5)
Passes the cytotoxicity test — suitable for medical devices and components with patient contact.
Automotive grade (85/85 test)
Passes 85°C / 85% relative humidity Accelerated-Life test — qualified for automotive electronics and HVAC applications.
Higher service temperature (120 °C)
Significantly superior to standard cyanoacrylates (~80 °C) — suitable for applications with increased heat stress.
It bonds rubber (unusual for UV)
Standard UV adhesives have problems with rubber — the cyanoacrylate component of 130UV overcomes this limitation.
Clear, transparent seam — minimal bloom
Yellow before curing, transparent after curing — perfect for visible components and optical applications.

What is Permabond 130UV used for?

Medical technology
With ISO-10993-5 certification, suitable for bonding on medical devices, diagnostic tools and plastic components.
Automotive electronics
Passing the 85/85 test qualifies 130UV for use in sensors, control units and HVAC components.
Visible bonding / appearance
Display glass, lenses, jewelry — the transparent seam without bloom remains inconspicuous.
Shadow areas in UV bonding
Where UV light cannot reach, 130UV hardens through humidity — no stress with "dark areas".
High-temperature applications
Service temperature 120 °C — suitable for components with increased thermal stress.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with acetone or isopropanol.
2
Dispensing adhesive
Apply Permabond 130UV sparingly. Open time for the moisture-curing component is 3–80 seconds, depending on the substrate.
3
Adding and aligning components
Position correctly — the open time allows time for adjustment. Apply enough pressure for thin adhesive film.
4
Cure with UV light
Point a UV lamp (low power is also possible) at the visible adhesive joint — tack-free in seconds. Shaded areas cure simultaneously through humidity.
5
Remove adhesive residue
Excess adhesive can be removed with Permabond CA Solvent, nitromethane or acetone.

Important instructions

UV lamp
A low-power UV lamp is sufficient (315–400 nm UV-A). For completely opaque substrates, curing occurs solely through moisture (3–80 s open time).
storage
Store refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C. Allow to warm to room temperature before opening. Protect from light.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 130UV

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 130UV is a low-viscosity, dual-cure cyanoacrylate adhesive (200 mPa·s) — it cures with both UV light and atmospheric humidity. Ideal for visible components, optical applications, medical devices (passed ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity test), and automotive electronics (passed 85/85 test). Service temperature 120 °C — significantly higher than standard cyanoacrylates.

Dual-cure means two curing mechanisms in one adhesive. Permabond 130UV cures primarily through UV light (315–400 nm UV-A) tack-free in seconds — and simultaneously through atmospheric humidity, even in shaded areas where UV light cannot reach. This is the crucial advantage over pure UV adhesives: components with complex geometries or concealed bonding zones cure reliably, without leaving any uncured material.

Permabond 130UV passes the ISO 10993-5 cytotoxicity test —the fundamental biocompatibility test for medical devices. This means that 130UV is generally suitable for bonding medical devices, diagnostic tools, and patient-contact plastic hardware. Important: ISO 10993-5 is only one part of the comprehensive ISO 10993 framework. For each specific medical device, further application-specific tests (sensitization, irritation, etc.) may be required.

Permabond 130UV cures even with low-power UV lamps—simple UV-A lamps in the 315–400 nm range are sufficient. A special high-power UV curing system is not necessary. Even handheld UV lamps for adhesive curing will work. For the fastest curing, we recommend LED UV lamps with a peak at approximately 365 or 385 nm.

Permabond 130UV reliably bonds ABS, acrylic, aluminum, EPDM, steel, nylon 6, polycarbonate, PET-G, PMMA, PVC, rubber, and stainless steel. A special feature: Unlike pure UV adhesives, 130UV also bonds rubber reliably—the cyanoacrylate component overcomes this typical UV limitation. For polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond POP Primer required.

Permabond 130UV should be stored unopened in a cool place at 2 to 7 °C and protected from light. Allow to warm to room temperature before opening. Opened bottles remain functional for several months if stored correctly. Light protection is particularly important with 130UV, as the UV cure component can react prematurely in stray light.

For medical devices (ISO 10993-5), visible components, optics, automotive electronics, and applications with higher service temperatures (120 °C), Permabond 130UV the right choice. For micro-gap/wicking applications, use Permabond 101.For general-purpose applications with larger gaps, use Permabond 102.For demanding rubber bonding applications, use Permabond 105.For maximum steel strength, Permabond 910.For vibration/impact applications, use 2050 or 240.
