Permabond A1044 is a fast-curing anaerobic thread sealant — providing immediate low-pressure sealing during tightening and subsequently developing full high-pressure strength. This is advantageous for time-critical commissioning.

The thixotropic paste consistency does not drip and fills gaps up to 0.5 mm. Unlike conventional anaerobic pipe sealants, A1044 seals immediately upon tightening against low pressure—the fitting can be used under low load without a 24-hour waiting period.

As anaerobic curing progresses (handling strength after 15 minutes, full strength after 24 hours), high-pressure strength builds up—up to a breakaway torque of 20 N·m. The product does not shrink, leaves no residue, and is WRAS-approved for drinking water.

SPECIAL FEATURE

Immediate low-pressure sealing — A1044 seals pipe threads against low pressures without any curing time. While anaerobic curing builds up full strength, the fitting is already ready for use. WRAS approved for drinking water applications.

Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished surfaces.

Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond A1044 directly from the bottle — for through holes, apply a stripe along the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops to the bottom. Do not touch the tip to metal surfaces (this will cause premature hardening in the bottle).

Insert the screws and tighten them to the required torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.

Allow to harden
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and in contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.

Accelerate curing (optional)
Permabond A905 activator can be used on inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures — applied to one adhesive surface, allowed to evaporate, then adhesive applied to the other side.

Permabond A1044 is a unicomponent (anaerobic) acrylic sealant with thixotropic viscosity and gap filling up to 0.5 mm. It is a fast-curing thread sealant providing immediate low-pressure sealing and is WRAS approved. Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal—ideal for tight-tolerance metallic joints.

Anaerobic adhesives like Permabond A1044 remain liquid in the bottle (due to contact with air and oxygen) and only begin to harden after bonding under anaerobic conditions and metal-to-metal contact. Curing starts at the metal surface and progresses into the bond gap. The product cures quickly on steel and copper; on stainless steel and zinc, the Permabond A905 activator may be beneficial.

Permabond A1044 is approved according to WRAS drinking water regulations . These certifications qualify the product for the respective specified applications — such as direct contact with drinking water in the case of WRAS and KTW approvals.

Permabond A1044 typically reaches handling strength after 15 minutes and functional strength after 1 hour at 23 °C on M10 steel. Final strength is reached after 24 hours. On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) or at low temperatures, the curing time is extended—Permabond A905 activator accelerates the process.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond A1044 (fast-curing thread sealant); Permabond A129 (medium-strength gel); Permabond A1058 (high-viscosity paste); Permabond A118 (high-strength universal). For inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) Permabond A905 activator be used to accelerate curing.
