Permabond ET5401 is a fast-curing 2K structural adhesive in a 2:1 ratio — designed for clocked line production with high strength requirements on metal and composite.

With a pot life of only 10–12 minutes, ET5401 is one of the fastest structural adhesives in the Permabond range — fast enough for clocked production, but with premium strength (20–30 N/mm² steel, 22–24 N/mm² carbon fiber).

APPLICATION PROFILE

Fast-curing, high-strength, two-component structural adhesive — combining a short pot life (10–12 min) with top shear strength on steel and carbon fiber. The choice for clocked line production with structural requirements.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For dual cartridges: Attach the mixing nozzle and press evenly (2:1 volume mixing ratio). For larger containers: Weigh out the resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to a bonding surface within the pot life (10–12 minutes @ 23 °C). Join the components with sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive is distributed over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components in place during curing
Use a clamping device or vise to prevent the components from moving during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength to be determined according to the TDS (Technical Data Sheet).
5
Full curing at room temperature
Final strength is typically reached after 24 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If required, optional post-curing at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond ET5401

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Fast-curing 2-component structural adhesive 2:1 — 10–12 min pot life, 20–30 N/mm² steel. The 2-component epoxy is mixed in a 2:1 volume ratio and offers a pot life of 10–12 minutes @ 23 °C.

Mix both components in a 2:1 ratio by volume — using a mixing nozzle for dual cartridges, weigh precisely for larger containers. Apply within the pot life (10–12 minutes @ 23 °C) and join components. Full curing typically occurs after — at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET5401 is typically 10–12 minutes at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures lengthen the pot life. Mixing quantities above approximately 100 g may gel more quickly due to an exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET5401 bonds reliably to: steel: 20–30 N/mm²; carbon fiber: 22–24 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, test compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET5401 does not have specific industry-specific approvals such as EU 10/2011 (food), UL94 (fire protection), or Boeing/Airbus (aerospace). For general industrial applications, the product is approved according to Permabond standards.

Permabond ET5401 is a fast-setting structural adhesive 2:1 — 10–12 min pot life, high strength (2:1 volume mix, 10–12 minutes @ 23 °C pot life). Permabond ET540 is a long pot life adhesive (2:1, 120–150 min pot life) — very long pot life.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy range, select according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirements: Permabond ET5401 (fast-setting structural adhesive 2:1 — 10–12 min pot life, high strength); Permabond ET540 (long pot life); Permabond ET5411 (high temperature); Permabond ET5428 (black, fast-setting, high strength). For aerospace applications, see ET515 (aircraft seat trays); for food applications, see ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal conductivity/fire protection, see ET5441 (UL94-V0).
