Permabond TA4200 is a standard 1:1 MMA structural adhesive — the all-round industrial adhesive for high-stress bonding applications on metal, composite and plastic.

With a 1:1 mixing ratio and standard processing, TA4200 covers the broad spectrum of industrial structural bonding applications. Its MMA chemistry provides higher impact and peel strength than conventional epoxies.

APPLICATION PROFILE

Standard MMA structural adhesive in a 1:1 ratio — the all-round choice for industrial structural bonding with a balanced pot life and 23–25 N/mm² steel shear strength.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Ensure bonding surfaces are clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with Permabond Cleaner A. Lightly sand the aluminum to remove oxides.
2
Mix components A + B
For dual cartridges: Attach the mixing nozzle (1:1 volume ratio). For larger containers, weigh precisely and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to a bonding surface and join the components together with sufficient pressure.
4
Secure components during curing
Use a clamping device or clamp. Avoid movement before handling stability is achieved.
5
Curing at room temperature
Final strength is typically reached after 24 hours at 23 °C. Exposure to heat accelerates the curing process.

Important instructions

Important instructions
Store at 2–7 °C. Degrease surfaces before bonding.
storage
Store adhesive at 2 to 7 °C. Keep initiator separate in its original packaging. Never mix adhesive and initiator directly — protect adhesive from light.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond TA 4200

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Standard structural adhesive MMA 1:1 — 23–25 N/mm² steel, balanced application.

TA series MMA structural adhesives typically operate using a no-mix process: initiator on one surface, adhesive on the other—upon joining, the initiator activates the adhesive. Mixing ratio: 1:1 by volume. Handling strength after 2–10 minutes, final strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.

MMA (methyl methacrylate) structural adhesives offer higher impact and peel strength than conventional two-component epoxies—important for dynamically stressed bonds. The no-mix application with a separate initiator eliminates pot life limitations. Curing time is typically faster (minutes instead of hours).

Permabond TA 4200 bonds reliably to: Steel: 23–25 N/mm². Substrate failure is common with polycarbonate and PVC (bond stronger than material).

Permabond TA 4200 does not have specific aerospace approvals like TA4246 (Boeing/Airbus). For industrial applications without aerospace requirements, the product is approved according to Permabond standards.

Permabond TA 4200 is a structural adhesive MMA 1:1 — standard industrial bonding (1:1 volume mix). Permabond TA 4202 is a standard 1:1 (1:1) — comparable.

From the Permabond MMA range: Permabond TA 4200 (structural adhesive MMA 1:1 — standard industrial bonding); Permabond TA 4202 (standard 1:1); Permabond TA 4204 (standard 1:1); Permabond TA 4246 (aerospace 10:1). For aerospace premium, see TA 4246 (Boeing and Airbus approved). For highest industrial strength without the aerospace surcharge, see TA 452.
