The complete Permabond TA4246 + Initiator 46 package contains the aerospace MMA structural adhesive together with the required initiator — ready for immediate use in Boeing/Airbus certified structural bonding applications.

TA4246 is a no-mix MMA structural adhesive: The adhesive is applied to one surface, the initiator 46 to the other — when joined, the initiator activates the adhesive.

The complete package simplifies procurement and warehousing — the adhesive and initiator are a perfect match, both from Permabond. Approved according to Boeing HMS-16-1226-Rev-C and Airbus IP510-04-036-01.

COMPLETE PACKAGE

Permabond TA4246 + Initiator 46 as a complete package — Aerospace MMA structural adhesive with the required initiator. Boeing and Airbus approved, ready for immediate use without separate procurement of the initiator.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Prepare bonding surfaces clean, dry, and free of grease — degrease with Permabond Cleaner A. Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove the oxide layer.
2
Apply initiator to one bonding surface
Apply Permabond Initiator (46 for TA4246, 41 for TA435/TA437/TA436) thinly and evenly to one of the two bonding surfaces. Allow the initiator to flash off — surface life of up to 2 hours.
3
Apply adhesive to the opposite side
Apply Permabond TA 4246 to the UNTREATED bonding surface. Never mix adhesive and initiator directly — this will cause premature curing in the bottle.
4
Joining components
Fix and join the components immediately, at the latest within 2 hours after applying the initiator. Apply pressure — the adhesive spreads thinly and evenly.
5
Curing at room temperature
Handling strength typically after 2–10 minutes, functional strength after 15–30 minutes, final strength after 24 hours at 23 °C. Heat accelerates curing.

Important Notes

Important Notes
Storage 2–7 °C — Allow the adhesive to warm to room temperature before opening.
Storage
Store at 2 to 7 °C (adhesive). Store initiator separately in original packaging. Never mix adhesive and initiator directly — protect adhesive from light exposure.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond TA 4246 + Initiator 46

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Complete package TA4246 + Initiator 46 — Aerospace structural adhesive with initiator in one order.

TA series MMA structural adhesives typically operate using a no-mix process: initiator on one surface, adhesive on the other—upon joining, the initiator activates the adhesive. Mixing ratio: 10:1 by volume (adhesive to initiator). Handling strength after 2–10 minutes, final strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.

MMA structural adhesives (methyl methacrylate) offer higher impact and peel strength than classic 2K epoxies — important for dynamically loaded bonds. The no-mix processing with a separate initiator eliminates the pot life limitation. Cure time is typically faster (minutes instead of hours).

Permabond TA 4246 + Initiator 46 bonds reliably: Steel: 33–35 N/mm²; Aluminum: 20–30 N/mm². Substrate failure is common with polycarbonate and PVC (bond stronger than material).

Permabond TA 4246 + Initiator 46 is approved according to: Airbus IP510-04-036-01, Boeing HMS 16-1226 Rev C.Compliance letters and detailed certificates are available from Permabond/SILITECH.

Permabond TA 4246 + Initiator 46 is a complete aerospace structural adhesive package — TA4246 + Initiator 46 (10:1 volume parts (adhesive to initiator) mix). Permabond TA 4246 is also available as a single adhesive (10:1) — adhesive only (without initiator).

From the Permabond MMA range: Permabond TA 4246 + Initiator 46 (Aerospace structural adhesive complete package — TA4246 + Initiator 46); Permabond TA 4246 (adhesive only); Permabond TA437 + Initiator 41 (MMA standard package); Permabond TA435 + Initiator 41 (MMA standard package). For premium aerospace, see TA4246 (Boeing and Airbus approved). For highest industrial strength without an aerospace surcharge, see TA452.
