Product Description

Bonderite L-GP 554/20 is a fume-free, water-based press and die forging lubricant with colloidal graphite — specially for aluminum extrusion, excellent lubrication and release properties.

Bonderite L-GP greases and oil-based concentrates from Henkel/Acheson — graphite or copper dispersions for high-temperature lubrication, forging tools, and extrusion applications. L-GP 554/20 is tailored to specific industrial applications — the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

Aluminum extrusion standard

Bonderite L-GP 554/20 (formerly DAG 554/20) is a fume-free, water-based press and die forging lubricant—a colloidal graphite dispersion in water for aluminum extrusion presses. The die is immersed in diluted material directly after extrusion, forming a graphite film with excellent lubrication/release properties and necessary cooling.

Sinking temperature can be controlled via dilution.

What is the L-GP 554/20 used for?

Aluminum extrusion
Main application — press ram lubrication.
Hot forged steel
Unalloyed carbon steels.
Hot pressing aluminum + brass
Non-ferrous metals.
Anti-adherence pressure piece
Prevents the press stamp from sticking to the billet.

Processing

1
Prepare the lubrication point
Clean lubrication points — remove old lubricant residues mechanically or with a cleaner.
2
Dilute the concentrate (if necessary)
For concentrates (e.g., L-GP 522, 554/20), dilute with the specified carrier medium.
3
Application
Apply with brush, spatula, swab, or spray application — typically a thin, uniform layer on the hot tool or component.
4
Apply
For pastes, apply manually — for greases, use contact pressure for distribution.
5
Application + protection
Process the workpiece after application — the lubricating film reduces friction and protects against corrosion up to +1'000 °C (AGU+).

Frequently asked questions about L-GP 554/20

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Bonderite L-GP 554/20: Fume-free, water-based press and die forging lubricant with colloidal graphite — specially formulated for aluminum extrusion, offering excellent lubrication and release properties. Main applications: Aluminum extrusion, hot forging of steel, hot pressing of aluminum and brass.

Greases and oil-based concentrates (L-GP OD, L-GP YA, L-GP AGU+) are preferred for: 1) lubrication points requiring continuous lubrication (bearings, chain links), 2) very high temperatures combined with corrosive environments (AGU+ up to +1'000 °C), 3) anti-seize requirements with guaranteed disassembly, 4) tool lubrication in hot forming with swab application. Dry films are used where cleanliness and electrical properties are critical.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +40 °C, exact values see TDS. Protect water-based products from frost. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Store aerosol sprays at low temperature and in a well-ventilated area.

In the comparison table above, you will find related Bonderite products with different properties — different carrier, different solid lubricant, different temperature range, or different application specialization. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we will be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate, temperature, load, processing workflow).
