processing

1
Stir up the RTV base
Homogenize the RTV base before adding the catalyst — avoid sedimentation of the fillers.
2
Dosing catalyst
Precise dosage: typically 5% w/w (see TDS for exact value). Dose by weight — volumetric dosing is inaccurate.
3
Mix carefully
Low-speed agitator — until no streak is visible (homogeneous color).
4
Degas
30–50 mbar vacuum for bubble-free crosslinking.
5
Process
Pour, smooth, or apply within the pot life — pot life depends on the catalyst and temperature.

Frequently asked questions about CATA 83

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Bluesil Catalyseur 83 (40 g): Special catalyst for Bluesil RTV 3325 P — liquid-paste, yellow, for casting vertical or large models (archaeology, paleontology, decoration). Main applications: archaeological replicas, paleontology, decoration.

The standard dosage is 5 parts catalyst to 100 parts RTV base (5% w/w). The exact dosage affects the pot life and demolding time—see TDS for precise values. Important: too little catalyst leads to incomplete crosslinking; too much catalyst dramatically reduces the pot life and can impair the final properties. Stir both components thoroughly before mixing.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C, see TDS for exact values. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging — Elkem guarantees the product's specifications only until the date shown.

The comparison table above lists related products with similar functions or specifications. If you are unsure which product is best, we would be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with details of your application (desired properties, substrate, processing workflow).
