Bluesil RTV 148 A is a low-viscosity 2K-Pt silicone potting compound variant of the RTV-147/148 family (Shore A 40 with RTV 147 B) for easy-to-pour high-temperature embedding.

This product range comprises 2K polyaddition silicone elastomers with very high temperature resistance (peak up to +300 °C) for thermal insulation, flexible insulating materials, and high-performance electrotechnical embedding. RTV 148 is tailored to specific industrial applications—the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

Low viscosity variant (10,000 mPa·s mixture)

Bluesil RTV 148 A is the low-viscosity sister component of RTV 147 — when combined with RTV 147 B, it forms a mixture with a viscosity of only 10,000 mPa·s, ideal for applications with complex geometries and narrow gap widths. Hardness of the vulcanizate: Shore A 40.

What makes RTV 148 stand out

Low mixing viscosity
10,000 mPa·s — fills complex geometries and narrow gaps.
Medium-hard (Shore A 40)
Combined with RTV 147 B — more flexible than RTV 147 alone.
High temperature resistance
Peak temperature +300 °C like RTV 147.
Long potting time (4 hours)
Careful pouring even with large volumes.
Mixable with RTV 147 A
Mixture 147A+148A+147B yields Shore A 55 with medium viscosity.
Beige color
With RTV 147 B blue-greenish mixed color — visual mixing control.

What is the RTV 148 used for?

Low-viscosity, high-temperature potting compound
Complex geometries with narrow gaps.
Flexible insulating materials
Medium-hard electrical insulation.
Electrical engineering embedding
Potting compound for complex electrotechnical components.
Thermal insulation devices
Thermal insulation of flexible components.
Industrial heating systems
Potting in heating appliances and components.
Medium-hardness applications
Where RTV 147 is too hard and RTV 141 is too soft.

processing

1
Prepare component
Position in shape — avoid components with Pt-cure inhibitors (sulfur rubber, Sn-RTV).
2
Mix
10:1 by weight. Long pot life (2–4 hours) allows for careful processing.
3
Degas
Vacuum 30–50 mbar.
4
Shed
Slow — highly viscous mixture (10,000–150,000 mPa·s).
5
Curing
24–48 h RT or accelerated by heating — up to +150 °C without bubbling.

Important instructions

Mixing & Dosage
Stir A and B thoroughly before each use. Use precise dosage in the specified ratio (see table above) — ideally by weight. Incorrect dosage will result in incomplete cross-linking.
Degassing
Degas the mixture under a vacuum of 30–50 mbar. The material expands 3–4 times, then contracts back to its original size after 5–10 minutes. Interrupt the vacuum several times for better degassing.
Avoid inhibitors
Polyaddition silicones are inhibited by: sulfur-vulcanized rubber, tin-catalyzed RTV, amine epoxides, and PVC with tin salts. If in doubt, conduct a preliminary test.

Frequently asked questions about RTV 148

Practical questions regarding processing and design — answered by SILITECH.

Bluesil RTV 148 A: Low-viscosity 2K-Pt silicone potting compound variant of the RTV-147/148 family (Shore A 40 with RTV 147 B) for easily castable high-temperature embeddings. Main applications include low-viscosity high-temperature potting, flexible insulation materials, and electrical engineering embedding.

Polyaddition crosslinking is a two-component silicone chemistry using a platinum catalyst. Component A contains the platinum complex, and component B contains the SiH crosslinker. When mixed, the components crosslink without releasing reaction byproducts—no shrinkage due to outgassing, excellent dimensional accuracy, and low linear shrinkage. Important: Polyaddition silicones are inhibited by various substances—sulfur-vulcanized natural rubbers, tin-catalyzed RTV silicones, amine-catalyzed epoxy resins, and tin-stabilized PVC. In case of doubt, a preliminary test should be carried out.

Thoroughly stir components A and B before each processing step. Measure precisely according to the mixing ratio specified in the TDS (see comparison table above) – ideally by weight. Mix with an electric or pneumatic agitator at low speed (minimize air entrainment). Degas the mixture under vacuum (30–50 mbar) – the material will expand 3–4 times its original volume, bubbles will escape, and the material will settle back after 5–10 minutes. Then slowly pour into the mold from the lowest point to avoid air entrapment. For polyaddition systems, avoid contact with inhibitors (sulfur-based rubber, tin-based RTV, amine epoxides, PVC with tin salts).

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — typically between +5 and +30 °C, see TDS for exact values. Store components A and B separately; seal airtight after opening. Polyaddition systems are insensitive to moisture, but should be stored in a cool place to maintain pot life. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

The comparison table above lists related RTV products with different hardnesses, pot lives, or application profiles. If you are unsure which product is best for you, we would be happy to advise you — contact SILITECH with details of your application (substrate, desired hardness, processing time, mechanical requirements, and durability).
