CAF 731
CAF 731
CAF · Elkem Silicones ·

ELKEM CAF 731 is a neutral-curing 1K silicone sealant (alkoxy, white) — thixotropic, primer-free, corrosion-free for aerospace and electronics.

The Elkem CAF series comprises one-component (1K), neutral (alkoxy) curing silicone sealants — no acetic acid odor, no corrosion on copper and sensitive metals, preferred in electronics and automotive applications. CAF 731 is tailored to specific industrial applications — the most important properties and areas of application are listed below.

Excellent mechanical properties

CAF 731 combines neutral (alkoxy) crosslinking with excellent mechanical properties — elongation at break 420%, tensile strength 13 kN/m. The right choice for demanding bonding applications with corrosion and odor requirements.

processing

1
Prepare the substrate
Bonding surfaces must be clean, grease-free, and dry — degrease with acetone or isopropanol. Neutral curing is safe on copper and non-ferrous metals.
2
Cut the cartridge tip
Cut the tip to the desired cross-section of the caterpillar and insert it into a standard cartridge gun.
3
Apply
Apply an even bead, immediately join the surfaces.
4
Smoothing (optional)
Smooth with a smoothing tool within the skin formation time (10–15 min).
5
Curing
Skin formation 10–15 min, cross-linking 2 mm in 8 h, fully cross-linked after 72 h. Odorless — no acetic acid odor.

Important instructions

Substrate preparation
Prepare bonding surfaces to be clean, grease-free, and dry. Adhesion is not possible on PE, PP, PTFE, and silicone oils. Conduct a preliminary test for critical material pairings.
Storage & Handling
Store in the unopened original container at 5 to 30 °C in a dry place, protected from sunlight. Consult the current SDS before opening.
Corrosion warning (Acetic)
Acetic crosslinking can attack copper, zinc, and galvanized steels. For corrosion-sensitive metals, choose the neutral variant (CAF 530, CAF 731, or CAF 730).
Application advice
SILITECH will advise you on the optimal CAF variant for your application — substrate pairing, corrosion and temperature requirements, desired appearance and processing workflow.

Frequently asked questions about CAF 731

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

ELKEM CAF 731: Neutral-curing 1K silicone sealant (alkoxy, white) — thixotropic, primer-free, corrosion-free for aerospace and electronics. Main applications include aerospace bonding, electronic components, and industrial repair.

Neutral curing (alkoxy) means that the 1K system cures through atmospheric moisture, releasing only alcohols (instead of acetic acid). Advantages: no aggressive odor in the workplace, no corrosion on copper, non-ferrous metals, and electrogalvanized steels, very good adhesion to electronic components. Preferred choice for electronics, automotive sensors, solar modules, and all applications with corrosion-sensitive metals.

CAF 731 adheres without primer to glass, ceramics, many metals (stainless steel, aluminum, copper in neutral variants), and numerous engineering plastics. Adhesion is not possible to PE, PP, PTFE, and silicone oils—these substrates are fundamentally incompatible with silicone. If in doubt, we recommend a preliminary test or consulting SILITECH regarding the specific material pairing.

Prepare the substrate to be clean, grease-free, and dry. Apply the sealant evenly from the cartridge or container—refer to the TDS for skin formation and curing times. Store in the unopened original container at 5 to 30 °C, protected from sunlight. Use opened containers promptly—for Acetic systems, reseal tightly immediately after opening. Consult the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

In the comparison table above, you will find related CAF products with adapted properties—different color, different crosslinking system (acetic vs. neutral), or different mechanical properties. If you are unsure about the optimal choice, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your requirements (substrate pairing, temperature, corrosion requirements, appearance).
