Product Description

Permabond 919 is the original allyl cyanoacrylate adhesive — a high-tech, two-stage curing superglue that becomes permanently temperature resistant at 150°C to 250°C after post-cure and carries the rare MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 1 approval.

With a viscosity of 2–6 mPa·s, 919 is ultra-low-viscosity and wicking-capable like Permabond 791 — penetrating micro-gaps by capillary action and filling gaps up to 0.05 mm. However, the allyl chemistry fundamentally distinguishes 919 from standard ethyl cyanoacrylates.

The key to its exceptional heat resistance is the two-stage curing process: After initial room-temperature curing (4 hours), the bond is post-cured for 2 hours at 150 °C. Only then does the bond become permanently resistant to temperatures up to 250 °C—a property unique in the world of cyanoacrylates. Permabond 919 is MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 1 approved and has been established in military, aerospace, and high-temperature industrial applications for decades.

APPROVAL & SPECIAL PROPERTIES

MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 1 — the special high-temperature classification of the MIL-Spec. With the two-stage post-cure process (4 h RT + 2 h at 150 °C), Permabond 919 becomes permanently resistant up to 250 °C — a property that no standard cyanoacrylate achieves.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with acetone or isopropanol. Lightly sand aluminum, copper, and their alloys to remove the oxide layer.
2
Apply adhesive sparingly
Apply Permabond 919 only drop by drop to a bonding surface — the thin layer is crucial for rapid curing.
3
Joining components
Assemble quickly and align correctly. Apply sufficient pressure so that the adhesive spreads into a thin film.
4
Fixing until hand-tight
Do not disturb or realign until hand strength is achieved (typically a few seconds to one minute, depending on the substrate). Final strength after 24 hours.
5
Remove adhesive residue
Excess adhesive can be removed with Permabond CA Solvent 2, nitromethane, or acetone.
6
Post-Cure for high-temperature performance
After bonding, fix for 4 h at room temperature, then post-cure for 2 h at 150 °C — thereafter, the bond is permanently loadable up to 250 °C.

Important Notes

Not suitable for / Important notes
For full high-temperature performance, post-cure (4 h room temperature + 2 h at 150 °C) is mandatory. Without post-cure, 919 behaves like a standard cyanoacrylate at lower temperatures. Permabond CSA activator is recommended for porous or difficult surfaces. Permabond POP primer is mandatory before bonding PP, PE, PTFE, or silicone.
Storage
Store refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening — prevents condensation and protects shelf life.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 919

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 919 is an allyl cyanoacrylate superglue with a viscosity of 2–6 mPa·s and a maximum gap filling capacity of 0.05 mm. It contains genuine allyl cyanoacrylate—ultra-low flammability, MIL Class 1, and post-cure up to 250 °C.

Permabond 919 reliably bonds steel (20–22 N/mm²), aluminum (16–18 N/mm²), ABS (4 N/mm²), polycarbonate (7 N/mm²), as well as Buna-N rubber and similar elastomers. For polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is required.

Permabond 919 is approved according to MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 1 (existing designs) — qualified for demanding industrial applications.

Permabond 919 reaches handling strength on steel in <20 s. Other typical curing times: <15 s (NBR), <20 s (Buna N), <20 s (phenol). The final strength of 20–22 N/mm² (steel) is reached after 24 hours. Temperature, humidity, and substrate affect the curing rate.

Permabond 919 offers a viscosity of 2–6 mPa·s, a gap filling capacity of 0.05 mm, and a shear strength of 20–22 N/mm² on steel. Permabond 920 has a viscosity of 80 mPa·s, a gap filling capacity of 0.15 mm, and a shear strength of 19–23 N/mm² on steel (medium viscosity, MIL Class 2 + Bio). Both utilize an allyl cyanoacrylate base (or a related cyanoacrylate variant).

Permabond 919 should be stored unopened at 2 to 7 °C and is stable until the printed expiration date. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening—this prevents condensation inside, which would reduce its shelf life. Opened bottles remain functional for several months if stored correctly, although the curing rate may decrease over time. We recommend a test bond to check reactivity before critical production applications.

From the Permabond cyanoacrylate range, select according to viscosity and special properties: Permabond 919 (2–6 mPa·s, 0.05 mm gap width, with post-cure); Permabond 920 (80 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, medium viscosity, MIL Class 2 + Bio); Permabond 922 (1,200–2,000 mPa·s, 0.4 mm, paste, MIL Class 3, 0.4 mm gap); Permabond 825 (100–150 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, 180 °C continuous use, without post-cure). For polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is always required.
