Product Description

Permabond ET5162 is a 2K epoxy with direct food contact approval — EU 10/2011 and FDA compliant. The premium choice for bonding in food processing, packaging industry, and pharmaceutical production.

Unlike standard industrial epoxies, ET5162 is approved according to EU 10/2011 (European regulation on food contact materials) and FDA standards — compliance letters are available from Permabond.

With a 60–80 minute pot life, ET5162 provides sufficient working time. The off-white color and balanced strength (10–15 N/mm² steel) qualify the product for applications in food processing equipment technology, packaging machinery, and pharmaceutical production with direct product proximity.

FOOD APPROVAL

Permabond ET5162 is approved for food contact according to EU 10/2011 + FDA compliant — one of the few 2K epoxies with direct food contact approval. Premium choice for food processing equipment, packaging machinery, and devices in close proximity to products.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For twin cartridges: attach the mixing nozzle and press evenly (2:1 volume ratio mixing ratio). For larger containers: weigh resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air entrapment.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive within the pot life (60–80 minutes @ 23 °C) to a bonding surface. Join components with sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive spreads over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components during curing
Use a clamping device or clamp to ensure the components do not move during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength according to the TDS.
5
Full cure at room temperature
Final strength is typically achieved after 24 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If necessary, optionally post-cure at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Important Notes

Important Notes
Before series use, request the compliance letter directly from Permabond. For direct food contact, a migration test according to EU 10/2011 is recommended. Degrease surfaces before bonding.
Storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Keep 2K epoxy components in closed packaging — especially protect the hardener from moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions about Permabond ET5162

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Food-grade 2K epoxy — EU 10/2011 + FDA-compliant for direct food contact. The 2K epoxy is mixed in a 2:1 ratio by volume and offers a pot life of 60–80 minutes @ 23 °C.

Mix both components in a 2:1 ratio by volume — for double cartridges, use a mixing nozzle; for larger containers, weigh precisely. Apply within the pot life (60–80 minutes @ 23 °C) and join the parts together. Full cure typically occurs after 24 hours at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET5162 is typically 60–80 minutes @ 23 °C at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures extend the pot life. Mixing quantities above approximately 100 g can cure faster due to exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET5162 bonds reliably: Steel: 10–15 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, check compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET5162 is approved according to: EU 10/2011 Food Contact, FDA Compliance Letter available. Compliance letters and detailed certificates are available from Permabond/SILITECH.

Permabond ET5162 is food-approved 2K epoxy — EU 10/2011, FDA-compliant, direct food contact (2:1 by volume mix, 60–80 minutes @ 23 °C pot life). Permabond ET514 is standard 1:1 (1:1, 30–50 min pot life) — industrial without food approval.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy series, choose according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirement: Permabond ET5162 (food-approved 2K epoxy — EU 10/2011, FDA-compliant); Permabond ET514 (standard 1:1); Permabond ET5422 (high strength); Permabond ET515 (aerospace flexible). For aerospace, see ET515 (Aircraft Seat Trays); for food, ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal management/fire protection, ET5441 (UL94-V0).
