Product Description

Permabond A1044 is a fast-curing anaerobic thread sealant — providing immediate low-pressure sealing during tightening and subsequently developing full high-pressure strength. This is advantageous for time-critical commissioning.

The thixotropic paste consistency does not drip and fills gaps up to 0.5 mm. Unlike conventional anaerobic pipe sealants, A1044 seals immediately upon tightening against low pressure—the fitting can be used under low load without a 24-hour waiting period.

As anaerobic curing progresses (handling strength after 15 minutes, full strength after 24 hours), high-pressure strength builds up—up to a breakaway torque of 20 N·m. The product does not shrink, leaves no residue, and is WRAS-approved for drinking water.

SPECIAL FEATURE

Immediate low-pressure sealing — A1044 seals pipe threads against low pressures without any curing time. While anaerobic curing builds up full strength, the fitting is already ready for use. WRAS approved for drinking water applications.

What distinguishes Permabond A1044

Immediate low-pressure sealing
The screw connection seals against low pressures as soon as it is tightened — no waiting time.
High-pressure strength after curing
Until the pipe joint reaches its full burst strength.
No shrinkage
Uniform gap filling without loss of volume.
Leaves no residue
It does not clog narrow channels in hydraulic systems.
0.5 mm gap filling
For coarse pipe threads without pre-machining.
WRAS approved for potable water
Direct contact with drinking water permitted.

What is Permabond A1044 used for?

Hydraulic and pneumatic lines
Immediate pressure tightness upon commissioning.
Drinking water installation
WRAS-approved — Sanitary and water treatment.
Quick setup
If a 24-hour waiting period before pressurization is not possible.
Industrial pipe threads
Compressed air, cooling water, lubricating oil.
Maintenance and Repair
Fast recommissioning after service interventions.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished ones.
2
Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond A1044 directly from the bottle — for through holes, apply a stripe along the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops to the bottom. Do not touch the tip to metal surfaces (this will cause premature hardening in the bottle).
3
Joining components
Insert the screws and tighten to the desired torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.
4
Allow to cure
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and upon contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.
5
Accelerate curing (optional)
On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures, Permabond A905 activator can be used — apply to one bonding surface, allow to flash off, then apply adhesive to the other side.

Important Notes

Not suitable for / Important notes
Low-pressure instant seal; full high-pressure resistance only after 24 hours. Not for contact with oxygen or vapor. Some thermoplastics may be affected.
Storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Anaerobic adhesives lose their reactivity upon contact with metal — do not touch the tip of the bottle to metal surfaces, and do not pour adhesive back into the bottle.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond A1044

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond A1044 is a unicomponent (anaerobic) acrylic sealant with thixotropic viscosity and gap filling up to 0.5 mm. It is a fast-curing thread sealant providing immediate low-pressure sealing and is WRAS approved. Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal—ideal for tight-tolerance metallic joints.

Anaerobic adhesives like Permabond A1044 remain liquid in the bottle (due to contact with air and oxygen) and only begin to harden after bonding under anaerobic conditions and metal-to-metal contact. Curing starts at the metal surface and progresses into the bond gap. The product cures quickly on steel and copper; on stainless steel and zinc, the Permabond A905 activator may be beneficial.

Yes — Permabond A1044 is a thread sealant with moderate torque (20 N·m) and can be removed with standard tools. Designed for maintenance of pipe connections.

Permabond A1044 is approved according to WRAS drinking water regulations . These certifications qualify the product for the respective specified applications — such as direct contact with drinking water in the case of WRAS and KTW approvals.

Permabond A1044 typically reaches handling strength after 15 minutes and functional strength after 1 hour at 23 °C on M10 steel. Final strength is reached after 24 hours. On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) or at low temperatures, the curing time is extended—Permabond A905 activator accelerates the process.

Permabond A1044 is a fast-curing thread sealant (thixotropic viscosity, 0.5 mm gap filling, 20 N·m breakaway torque). Permabond A129 is a medium-strength gel sealant (gel, 0.5 mm, 12 N·m breakaway torque) — medium strength, without instant sealing. Both belong to the anaerobic Permabond A series.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond A1044 (fast-curing thread sealant); Permabond A129 (medium-strength gel); Permabond A1058 (high-viscosity paste); Permabond A118 (high-strength universal). For inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) Permabond A905 activator be used to accelerate curing.
