Permabond 801 is an ultra-low viscosity ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive with targeted enhanced high-temperature resistance — the Wicking class for applications where conventional superglues fail under heat.

With a viscosity of 10–15 mPa·s, 801 is highly flexible and fills micro-gaps down to 0.05 mm. The liquid migrates into already assembled components via capillary action (wicking) — a property that, combined with the product's heat resistance, is a special feature of the Permabond series.

On steel, 801 delivers a shear strength of 19–23 N/mm²; on ABS and PVC, the fracture test leads to substrate failure. Handling strength on all common substrates is 10 to 15 seconds. Permabond 801 is the wicking variant of the high-temperature series 801 / 802 / 820 / 825.

SPECIAL FEATURE

High-temperature resistant ethyl cyanoacrylate variant in an ultra-low viscosity wicking consistency. Retains significantly more strength at higher temperatures than standard cyanoacrylates — the combination of 10–15 mPa·s and heat resistance is unusual for CA adhesives.

What distinguishes Permabond 801

Ultra-low viscosity
10–15 mPa·s — Wicking-capable, flows into micro-gaps and into joined components via capillary action.
High temperature resistant
Retains more strength at elevated temperatures than standard cyanoacrylates.
Substrate failure in ABS and PVC
For PVC, the bond is stronger than the plastic substrate even at 10 N/mm².
Steel strength at the highest level
19–23 N/mm² shear strength on blasted steel.
Solvent-free
100% reactive — no mixing, no heat curing.
Tight tolerances
0.05 mm gap filling — microsystem technology and precision bonding.

What is Permabond 801 used for?

High-temperature wicking adhesives
Penetration through capillary action into components that are later exposed to elevated temperatures.
Micromechanics and precision instrument manufacturing
Tight tolerance fits with gap widths down to 0.05 mm.
Electronics manufacturing
Component fixation with simultaneous heat tolerance — for example, for areas near hot components.
Repair and maintenance operations
Subsequent fixing of joined components in temperature-stressed environments.
General industrial assembly
Standard adhesive bonds with increased temperature requirements.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with acetone or isopropanol. Lightly sand aluminum, copper, and their alloys to remove the oxide layer.
2
Use adhesive sparingly
Apply Permabond 801 only drop by drop to a bonding surface — the thin layer is crucial for rapid curing.
3
assembling components
Quickly and correctly align the parts. Apply enough pressure so that the adhesive spreads into a thin film.
4
Secure until firmly in place
Do not disturb or realign until handling strength is reached (typically a few seconds to one minute, depending on the substrate). Final strength is reached after 24 hours.
5
Remove adhesive residue
Excess adhesive can be removed with Permabond CA Solvent 2, nitromethane or acetone.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
For porous or difficult surfaces, Permabond CSA activator is recommended. Permabond POP primer is mandatory before bonding PP, PE, PTFE, or silicone.
storage
Store refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening – this prevents condensation and protects the shelf life.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 801

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 801 is an ethyl cyanoacrylate instant adhesive with a viscosity of 10–15 mPa·s and a maximum gap filling capacity of 0.05 mm. It is an ultra-low viscosity, high-temperature cyanoacrylate adhesive—wicking-capable and highly heat-resistant.

Permabond 801 reliably bonds steel (19–23 N/mm²), ABS (>6 N/mm² (substrate failure)), PVC (>10 N/mm² (substrate failure)), polycarbonate (6 N/mm²), as well as Buna-N rubber and similar elastomers. For polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is required.

Permabond 801 reaches handling strength on steel in 10–15 s. Other typical curing times: 10–15 s (Buna N), 10–15 s (Phenol). The final strength of 19–23 N/mm² (steel) is reached after 24 hours. Temperature, humidity, and substrate affect the curing rate.

Permabond 801 offers a viscosity of 10–15 mPa·s, a gap filling capacity of 0.05 mm, and a shear strength of 19–23 N/mm² on steel. Permabond 802 has a viscosity of 90–110 mPa·s, a gap filling capacity of 0.15 mm, and a shear strength of 19–23 N/mm² on steel (medium viscosity, high temperature). Both utilize an ethyl cyanoacrylate base (or a related cyanoacrylate variant).

Permabond 801 should be stored unopened at 2 to 7 °C and is stable until the printed expiration date. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening—this prevents condensation inside, which would reduce its shelf life. Opened bottles remain functional for several months if stored correctly, although the curing rate may decrease over time. We recommend a test bond to check reactivity before critical production applications.

From the Permabond cyanoacrylate range, select according to viscosity and special properties: Permabond 801 (10–15 mPa·s, 0.05 mm gap width, temperature resistant); Permabond 802 (90–110 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, medium viscosity, high temperature); Permabond 820 (100 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, high temperature + biocompatible); Permabond 825 (100–150 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, premium 180 °C / 1,000 h). For polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is always required.
