PERMABOND ET5147
Permabond · Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd ·

Permabond ET5147 is a food-approved 2K epoxy with extended pot life — developed for complex food equipment assemblies where ET5143/ET5145 would cure too quickly.

With a 40–60 minute pot life, ET5147 offers significantly more working time than faster food-grade epoxies — important for large or complex bonding applications that require extended alignment. The EU 10/2011 approval permits direct food contact.

FOOD + LONG POT LIFE

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For twin cartridges: attach mixing nozzle, press evenly (1:1 by volume mixing ratio). For larger containers: weigh resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air entrapment.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive within the pot life (40–60 minutes @ 23 °C) to one bonding surface. Join components with sufficient pressure to spread the adhesive over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components during curing
Use a clamping device or clamp to ensure the components do not move during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength according to the TDS.
5
Full cure at room temperature
Final strength is typically achieved after 24 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If necessary, optionally post-cure at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Frequently Asked Questions about Permabond ET5147

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Food-approved 2K epoxy with longer pot life — 40–60 minutes for complex bonding. The 2K epoxy is mixed in a 1:1 by volume ratio and offers a pot life of 40–60 minutes @ 23 °C.

Mix both components in a 1:1 ratio by volume — for double cartridges use a mixing nozzle, for larger containers weigh precisely. Apply within the pot life (40–60 minutes @ 23 °C) and join the parts together. Full cure typically after — at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET5147 is typically 40–60 minutes @ 23 °C at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures extend the pot life. Mixing quantities above approximately 100 g can cure faster due to exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET5147 bonds reliably: Steel: 18–20 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, check compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET5147 is approved according to: EU 10/2011 Food Contact. Compliance letters and detailed certificates are available via Permabond/SILITECH.

Permabond ET5147 is a food-approved 2K epoxy — longer pot life (40–60 min) (1:1 by volume mix, 40–60 minutes @ 23 °C pot life). Permabond ET5143 is food standard (1:1, — pot life) — shorter pot life.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy series, select according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirements: Permabond ET5147 (Food-approved 2K epoxy — longer pot life (40–6); Permabond ET5143 (Food Standard); Permabond ET5145 (Food Ivory); Permabond ET5162 (Food + FDA). For aerospace, see ET515 (Aircraft Seat Trays); for food, ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal conductivity/fire protection, ET5441 (UL94-V0).
