PERMABOND LH050
PERMABOND LH050
Permabond · Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd ·

Permabond LH050 is a low-strength anaerobic thread sealant in paste form — developed for pressure-tight sealing of pipe threads up to M56, which must remain releasable at any time for service and inspection purposes.

With a paste consistency of 250,000 mPa·s, LH050 does not drip, remains precisely in place, and fills gaps up to 0.5 mm. The methacrylate chemistry distinguishes the product from the classic acrylic anaerobics of the A-series.

With a low torque of 4 N·m breakaway and 3 N·m running, LH050 is the ideal choice for maintenance and service valves — the connection seals reliably, but can be loosened at any time without tools or with minimal tool use. The range up to M56 also covers large industrial pipe threads.

APPLICATION PROFILE

Low-strength thread sealing paste based on methacrylate — seals pipe threads up to M56 pressure-tight and remains removable with standard tools. Ideal for service valves, inspection fittings, and comparable maintenance applications.

What is Permabond LH050 used for?

Service fittings
Threads that are regularly opened for maintenance purposes.
Inspection fittings
Pressure-tight sealing with a connection that can be released at any time.
Sanitary maintenance
When tighter-fitting pipe sealants would be too difficult to disassemble.
Hydraulic/Pneumatic service
Connections for regular service interventions.
Repair bonding
Paste application with maintenance releasability.

Processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished ones.
2
Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond LH050 directly from the bottle — for through-holes, apply a stripe over the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops at the bottom. Do not touch the tip with metal surfaces (premature curing in the bottle).
3
Joining components
Insert the screws and tighten to the desired torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.
4
Allow to cure
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and upon contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.
5
Accelerate curing (optional)
On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures, Permabond A905 activator can be used — apply to one bonding surface, allow to flash off, then apply adhesive to the other side.

Important Notes

Not suitable for / Important notes
Not for oxygen or steam contact. For inactive surfaces, use A905 Activator. Methacrylate chemistry — check compatibility with substrates before series use.
Storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Anaerobic adhesives lose their reactivity upon contact with metal — do not touch the tip of the bottle to metal surfaces, and do not pour adhesive back into the bottle.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond LH050

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond LH050 is a methacrylate ester (anaerobic) with a viscosity of 250'000 mPa·s (paste) and gap filling up to 0.5 mm. Low-strength thread sealing paste — tool-free sealing of large pipe threads up to M56. Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal — ideal for tightly toleranced metallic joints.

Anaerobic adhesives such as Permabond LH050 remain liquid in the bottle (air contact, oxygen) and only begin to cure after assembly under exclusion of air + metal contact. Curing starts from the metal surface and progresses into the bond gap. The product cures quickly on steel and copper; on stainless steel and zinc, the Permabond A905 activator may be beneficial.

Yes — Permabond LH050 is a low-strength threadlocker (4 N·m breakaway torque) and can be removed at any time with standard tools without heating. Designed for maintenance and service.

Permabond LH050 has no specific industry approvals such as WRAS or KTW (drinking water). For general industrial applications, the product is released according to Permabond's internal specifications — product-specific testing before series use is recommended.

Permabond LH050 typically achieves handling strength after 15 minutes and functional strength after 1 hour at 23 °C on M10 steel. Final strength is reached after 24 hours. On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) or at low temperatures, the curing time is extended — Permabond A905 activator accelerates the process.

Permabond LH050 is a low-strength thread sealant (paste) (250'000 mPa·s (paste) viscosity, 0.5 mm gap fill, 4 N·m breakaway torque). Permabond A129 is a medium-strength gel (gel, 0.5 mm, 12 N·m breakaway torque) — medium-strength A-series. Both belong to the anaerobic Permabond A-series.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond LH050 (low-strength thread sealant (paste)); Permabond A129 (medium-strength gel); Permabond A1044 (fast curing); Permabond MH052 (threadlocker + sealant). For inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum), additionally use Permabond A905 Activator to accelerate curing.
