Permabond 101 is a one-component cyanoacrylate adhesive based on ethyl cyanoacrylate — the classic for precise bonding in seconds without mixing, activator, or solvent.
The ultra-low viscosity ensures capillary penetration: Permabond 101 flows into the narrowest gaps on its own and is the first choice when components that have already been joined need to be bonded afterwards (wicking) or when tightly toleranced fits need to be joined without a visible adhesive seam.
MIL-A-46050C Type II Class 1 (existing designs) & CID AA-3097 Type II Class 1 (new designs) — the most important international specification for cyanoacrylate industrial adhesives. Qualified for industrial, aerospace, and defense applications.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 101
Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.
Permabond 101 is an ultra-low viscosity ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive (2–3 mPa·s) for precision bonding in seconds. It is particularly suitable for wicking applications, where the adhesive penetrates already joined components via capillary action, and for tight tolerance fits with a maximum gap width of 0.05 mm. Typical substrates include metals, elastomers (Buna-N, NBR), ABS, PVC, and phenolic resins.
Permabond 101 reliably bonds steel (19–23 N/mm²), aluminum, zinc, ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic resins, as well as Buna-N rubber and similar elastomers. For polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is required. For acidic or porous surfaces, Permabond C Surface Activator (CSA) is recommended.
Permabond 101 is approved according to MIL-A-46050C Type II Class 1 for existing designs and according to CID AA-3097 Type II Class 1 for new designs — the internationally established specifications for cyanoacrylate industrial adhesives. This qualifies Permabond 101 for demanding industrial and defense applications.
Permabond 101 reaches handling strength (0.3 N/mm² shear strength) on steel in 3–5 seconds, on Buna-N rubber in 2–5 seconds, and on phenolic resin in 5–10 seconds. The final strength of 19–23 N/mm² (steel) is reached after 24 hours. Temperature, humidity, and substrate affect the curing rate.
Permabond 101 is an ultra-low viscosity cyanoacrylate adhesive (2–3 mPa·s) with a maximum gap filling of 0.05 mm — ideal for wicking applications, micro-gaps, and post-bonding of previously joined components. Permabond 102 is medium viscosity (70–90 mPa·s) with a larger gap filling of 0.15 mm and a longer handling time (10–15 s on steel) — the better choice for standard bonding applications with larger tolerances. Both use ethyl cyanoacrylate as a base.
Permabond 101 should be stored unopened at 2 to 7 °C and is stable until the printed expiration date. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening—this prevents condensation inside, which would reduce its shelf life. Opened bottles remain functional for several months if stored correctly, although the curing rate may decrease over time. We recommend performing a test bond to check reactivity before critical production applications.
For micro-gap applications, wicking applications, and tight tolerance fits, Permabond 101 (2–3 mPa·s, max. 0.05 mm gap width) is recommended. For general bonding of metals, plastics, and larger gaps, Permabond 102 the right choice (70–90 mPa·s, 0.15 mm). For demanding rubber and plastic bonding applications with high purity requirements, choose Permabond 105.Universal applications with the highest steel strength are covered by Permabond 910. For polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is always required.
